Thinking this is the route I'm going to go and was just wondering what others people experience was like doing it. Looking at the fuse box Im either tapping into the cigar lighter or audio/mirror fuse.
Yep, that is currently how my radar is wired.

I had a car audio shop hardwire my radar detector and dash cam. It only cost $60 and I have a nice clean look with no wires. I think I bought the radar detector cable on Amazon for $20.

What type of dash cam do you use?
I have the direct wire cable I got from Amazon and I'm planning it on doing myself. The nearest car audio shop near me I don't trust. I had them install my double din in my Maxima years ago and it was shoddy work and they cracked some plastic in one of my door panels when doing the dynamat. I just haven't been able to find the add a circuit for the low profile fuses this car has locally. My local auto parts store didn't have it so probably going to have to order that online.
Does anyone have an Escort with the smart cord directly installed? I have a 9500ix and wondering where you might have placed the accessory mute button. I hate to install it with velcro and get put the sticky on any of the panels. Which if that's the case I'll get some of the 3M kind with the pull tab that's supposed to come right off and not leave a mess.

I have this dash cam:

It is outstanding. It is the most discreet one that I could find. Make sure you buy the capacitor edition if you live in a place where your car gets hot. Dash cams with batteries will explode if your car gets too hot.

I have the Escort 9500 also. I did not get the cord with the smart cord. I didn't notice that cord was available when I installed mine. Honestly, I never mute my radar detector at all because the GPS functions work so well. I only get false alarms if I am stuck in traffic behind an Acura with the tech package.

I forgot to add: if you want to run your dash cam when your car is parked, just install one of these:

InfinitiAce. How is the Spy Tec holding up in the heat of the car. I live in SC and it gets very hot here. I've read some reviews that were not so good.
Thanks

If you live in a hot place, you definitely need the capacitor edition. The batteries will explode in the head if you get the battery edition. Mine has worked perfectly the last year or so. I live in SoCal. Occasionally, I'll park at Magic Mountain for the entire day. My car is black with a black interior. It gets really hot when it it 100+ degrees out. I have mine hooked up to record even when the car is off. The heat does not phase it.
