Hello everyone! Anyone ever replace their hood struts on their Maxima? It looks so easy....but how do I pop off the old and pop on the new? Do I try to pry them off? Do I take the nut off the ball stud on the car and the hood first? I have the new hood struts, but no real idea of how to install them...
Thanks for any help or encoragement! Have a million things wrong with my 11 year old Maxima....but it's been a great car!!!

welcome aboard bro. i couldn't find anything in the how to's on this but i think i've seen it there before. it's been over 2 yrs since i replaced mine. i think on factory ones you have to remove the bolt. if not you just have to pull out that retaining clip and pop them right off.

Thx for helping me figure this out! The struts in place now are factory struts and I just don't see how to release the strut from the ball. The new struts (ebay) want to use the existing bolts/ball. Do you know how the retaining clip is removed? Do I just try to pry it out with a screw driver? I tried to just "whack"the factory strut off of the ball with a hammer, but it didn't just pop off. if they did not come with new ones then you'll have to pry that clip off with a screwdriver to get it released. try that.

I had to use a cutting torch on my factorys to get the old stud off because the one aftermarket one didn't come with it.maxhopper97 wrote:If I remember correctly, the factory hood struts do not detach from the ball.
