HKS Auto Line Controller. What do?

The HKS Auto Line Controller (ALC), I was wondering what exactly this thing is besides the basic description of,

"To improve the shift quality by keeping up the line pressure between automatic shifts (and firmer shifting itself".

Dose any one have one? Can you tell a difference? It seems like a good thing but before I go and drop 300 some dollars on one I would like a little more info?
