I have a 2001 infiniti qx4 with hids. The low beam bulb on the driver side isn't working. I've changed bulb, ballast and checked fuses and relays. I'm stumped. So I am doing led bulbs for the low beams i just need to know which wires i need to splice into for positive and negative wires. Tia

The HID's use 2 wires just like a regular bulb, the Red/Yellow wire at the connector to the ballast will be hot and the black wire is ground. Two thoughts about your HID's. First, the left and right bulbs share power but have different grounds. You can check if it's a bad ground by putting a bulb-type test lamp between Red/Yellow and the chassis and then Red/Yellow to Black. If Red/Yellow lights up to the chassis but not to Black then your ground wire is bad. Second, the Igniter (the steel-clad wire connecting the ballast to the bulb) isn't just a wire, it has circuitry in it and can fail. So if your ballast didn't come with a new Igniter, try that.

Ok I have the igniter but I see that the main circuit box is inside the headlight. Are there certain steps I need to take to out the old one? I don't want to destroy the headlight so any advice is appreciated. TIA

You may need to take the headlight out to thread it through, depending how tight things are. What I usually do is use the ballast end of the existing igniter to pull a length of fishing wire through the headlight housing to the bulb hole, then use the fishing wire to pull the new igniter wire back through the housing to reach the ballast.

The headlight is out but the main circuit box is inside wedged in a bracket and I don't see how it comes out.

Post a pic, I'm not sure what you mean. I know the QX4's had a funky ballast setup unlike later stuff, and I'm not clear in my memory how it went together.

I couldn't access your pic right away and it didn't show everything, but I'm guessing you have one of these goofy setups?

The guts of the igniter on these is in the little box and not the head of the igniter like later stuff. I did some asking around and couldn't find anyone who's been able to replace one without opening up the headlight or splicing the wires.
