I wonder if it is simple to place the 2002 - 2003 HID headlights into my 2001 se? Is it expensive?

Yes, they fit the 2k-2k1 Maxima altho there is more of a gap around the bumper area with them. New they are $600+ dependant on where you get them.

you can do these if you have to have the exact lights. personally, if i had a 00-03 maxima, i would have the ones in the middle. then you always have the bottom option. click on the pic for the ebay link bro

Interesting. So you would put '00-01 lights on a '02-03 Maxima which comes with actual HIDs (assuming those were the middle ones you were talking about)? The problem with using '00-01 lights and installing HID bulbs is that the reflectors were not designed for them. I would be interested in doing a comparisson at some point to see what the differences are in light output and direction.

From a projector perspective, just because you can buy aftermarket lights setup for projectors does not mean they function like true factory projectors. Retrofits usually do not have the R&D to ensure appropriate lighting.

What about the reflectors on the A33 I30? Since that model comes with either halogens or HIDs would the reflector likely be the same for both? I've looked at my I30 side by side with an I35 and I can't see any difference in the reflector...

I dunno. The "general" concesus I have seen is that HID bulbs do not necessarily work the same in a non-HID designed headlight vs one that came with them "from the factory". It is possible (and probable in the case of the I30/35 if you compared) that some headlight designs simply don't matter.

Is there any way to determine whether or not they are the same? Ideally I'd like to just get a pair of I35 headlights to swap in, but they are probably going to be very expensive. So if I can just install a D2R kit in place of my low beams it would be a lot cheaper.

i'm still back and forth about retro fits. i think the functionality of projectors are great, but its not OE before 6th gen. i like the OE look, slightly modified. hence my clear black housing.

If you use the 00/01 stock reflectors, you will need to aim the lights down a little bit, because I've been getting flashed the last few days. Once you put in the HID bulbs, it reflects the light as if your high beams were on.

I'd say they need to go down a bit and the drivers side turned in somewhat as well. From the pix, it looks like they hot-spot the left lane.

That's just way too nice for me. That'll never happen, not even on a cold day in hell.
