How bad is the light for oncoming drivers? I've wanted to convert to HID for awhile now, but I just don't want to blind everyone on the road. Also, what's the price for the kit?

Unless someone else is driving his car at him, he can't accurately answer this question.

I know there are a lot of people gung-ho about HIDs, and how they have to be "done properly" to prevent blinding other drivers, but I sometimes even have difficulty with cars that have FACTORY installed HIDs blinding me. Personally I doubt any refit kit could be as good as factory HIDs, either.

What's the acronym HID short for? I agree about the xenon bulbs - very aggravating to head into, especially in the hilly area where I live. You get the angled light that usually hits the pavement when you catch one coming over a hill!! I also get a little annoyed at those drivers who have their fog lights on ALL the time. Some of them are very bright. I think that the feds should require the manufacturers to have an indicator light on the dashboard for the fogs, as I believe that many people don't realize they have them on.

HID= High Intensity Discharge lights. Basically the lights use a gas medium referred to as ballast. This ballast is excited by 2 electrodes that create an arc. The gas is then excited by the electricity and produces energy in the form of light. Once the ballast is used up the light no longer works. This usually happens after years of use. Once the ballast is gone you replace it, like a light bulb.

Most cars use a Xenon ballast, hence them sometimes being called "Xenon headlights". My only concern would be the reflector on the headlight. Would the higher temp bulb cause it to melt?

The temperature of the bulb wouldn't cause any damage to the plastics of the headlamp assembly. The temperature of the bulb only references the "light temperature", which is measured in Degrees Kelvin. Standard white light is about 5K or 6K degrees Kelvin. Lower numbers will develop a yellowish tint down to a redish tint. Higher numbers than this will develop a bluish tint up to a purplish tint. The color temperature should have no influince on the thermal temperature of the bulb; basically, an 8,000 degree kelvin bulb is no hotter than a 4,000 degree kelvin bulb.

Color temperature is often referenced in photography. Determining the temperature of surrounding light allows the camera to set a "white balance," or a point at which to call true white based on the lighting conditions and vary color from there. This is why professional photographers use a light meter to measure lighting in a room prior to a photoshoot, or why studio photographers use light bulbs with a specific color temperature. Here's a graph that might help:

When i first put mine in i thought i was gonna get shot a couple of times for blinding people, one guy looked like he was having a seizure he looked so pissed! I was high beamed by alot of people for blinding them. So that lasted about a week.

Solution: I got some hid glare shields. Its just a U-shaped piece of sheet metal that goes right below the bulb. This forces all the light to hit the top part of the headlight and direct all the light downwards. If you look directly at the car you see an "n" shape of light. I have had no problems since then. I haven't gotten any insane reactions from people driving around me.

EDIT: Added pics

i have the h4 plug and play HID kit and they don't kill other people if they are installed correctly... the low beam points down so it is no worse than halogen lights... it's just a nicer color... but when driving at night it is the greatest thing EVER... i love it... and they scare dear away lol

The HID kits from xenonworx come with the metal glare shield which protects other drivers' eyes

i've never had any experience with HID's, so excuse my ignorance. are these just plug-n-play? i mean they will fit any car just about right? and if so, does that apply to any/all HID's? i would like to get some maybe, does anyone have any other links?

Im having my fog lights come on with the key so they will act like daytime driving lights,(hope not to bright) they should be on all vehicals IMO. Meeting these vehicals with HID or xenon bulbs really does suck. I would love to meet one of these cars if I still had my old 65 Impala. I wired it up so just the two inside lights would come on when I hit the brights (couldn't pull all four). They were airplane landing lights could see a stop sign reflecting back over a mile away. Really cool when people used to flash me for having my weak amber K-Mart fog lights on (like parking lights). I would show them my brights, didn't take them long to dim back down. I'm thankful I never got caught with those.

it had a HID kit on my car from day one, since i basic used most of the existing part from my former car. but to compensate, i lower my aim, so i don't see as far, but i don't 'glare' as much, but for the most party i don't have too much of an issue, since i tried to adjust them to see as far as the Halogen as possible.

coming from a former lowered car, i am always piss at lifted truck who never re-adjust their headlight, so i did it so that i wouldn't be a hypocrite.
