I guarantee you it's the placement of your magnets. If it backfires, then you more than likely put on of them in backwards. If it cranks and attempts to run, but does not start, means your values are all over the place. The problem is, you don't have much room for error when placing these magnets onto your pulley. If you struggle to get this right and have run out of options, let me know as I've done this on the CA probably more than anyone and I know what not to do. But get back with the forum on your progress.

is there a way that I can take the magnets out or is it better that I just get another crank pulley?

Sorry, I just saw this. Yes you "can" sort of get them out, but you basically had to smash it with a hammer, and then spend the next 80million hours of your life digging all of the pieces out. It's awful. Assuming the epoxy set up properly, LOL! If you didn't see my thread, I just had a magnet fall out. The epoxy didn't cure properly and so it never hardened.

The new crank pulley and magnets are a WAY better way to go.

Hey guys
THE CAR STARTED!!!!!!!!!!! . I waited till the magnets dryed up and slap it on and turn the key, boom started right up. I'm so f-ing happy . I then put the timing gun on the crank at set it at 10* and went back to the sds handheld and set it to 15* from 500-3000rpm .Thanks guys for helping with all the info.

How far did you have to adjust the magnet position to get the base timing to line up? Regardless, I'm happy to hear you're up and running!

It's set at 88 on the magnets position . The things revs up with no problems . I can't wait to take it to the track on a test and tune night, to fine tune it. But I also have to finish cleaning up the harness.

88 seems high. You had to change it that much to get the timing to match? I've never had to have it set higher than 85.

I hope not. But the car starts up and rev up with no problem. What's the safest timing map # I should run? I'm basically using what was with the system.

Is it on pump gas? How much boost are you running?

8 port head, or 4 port? IIRC, the base timing on the 8 port is actually 10°, and the 15° number that we're used to seeing in the FSM is for the 4 port head. I would run base timing up to about 1750. Then at 2k, I added 2°/250rpm until I hit 27°. At about 7-8psi, I would start pulling 1°of timing per psi of boost. That a pretty safe timing setup. It will leave some power on the table, but shouldn't cause any issues with detonation.

1250-16
1500-20
1750-24
2000-30
2250-34
2500-36
2750-38
3000-38
3250-38
3500-35
3750-35
4000-34
4250-34
4500 to 7500-32

It's a 8 port so I'll change it back to 10* .

38 is too much for this engine, especially the 8 port head. When the power vales are closed at low RPMs, the burn speed in the combustion chamber is fast enough that a lot of ignition advance isn't needed.

I'd do 30 from 2750 on up. Any plans to get it on a dyno?

500 to 1000-10*
1250-12
1500-14
1750-16
2000-20
2250-22
2500-24
2750 to 7500-30

I'm going to do some pulls with the wastegate off so it's like a Na motor so that I can have a good fuel and timing, once it is all set I'll start with a low psi pull and make sure that the wideband never see over 11.5 and if it do I'll catch it before it's leans out and fix it and turn up the boost and repeat it. Also I will retard it by 2* so I can drive the car and be set for now and later on do 10* retard to be at 14psi .

Glad to hear you got it running ;). I'm going to be lazy and not go back through this thread, but ask, what size injectors are you using? I can give you some idea some idea of where you're at tuning wise. And also, what map sensor are you running? 2,3,3.5 or 5 bar?

1000cc injectors on gasoline with this system is probably beyond what it's capable of handling well. It will run, but you're going to have a lot of variance in the AFR's. It's fine running the 450's and the gt2871 though.
