For months I have been whining about my Q45a vibrating and still have a bunch of stuff to check such as engine / transmission mounts etc but I think it may actually be either fuel or ignition related. Why?, the car has always seemed hesitant to get up an go when I give it WOT, it seems to pause and then accelerate but never as fast as I would expect. It also doesn't feel very smooth when accelerating so I am starting to think that maybe I have a bad injector or something.

Questions

1. Could these symptoms cause a vibration at normal running conditions2. Does this explain the slight hesitation and general lack of smoothness3. Can a bad injector sound noisy like a worn valve lifter because I have always had this noise and if anything it is a bit worse of late

If I were you I would try to shift to neutral while driving. If the vibration remains the same you may assume that it doesn't come from engine, unless your car vibrates on idle. If it comes from the engine, do the balance test to check whether the injectors fire properly. I would also test ignition coils and fuel pressure. If you are good working with your hands, I recommend http://www.alldatadiy.com website. It costs 24.95 per year, but it has enough useful information that helped me in the past to save a few bucks. Also, check you MAF sensor connection. On my Q I replaced upper links that caused vibration while driving. So if you don't feel any difference when shifting to neutral, I would recommend checking those.

Good luck,Andre.

Thanks for the help, I will try to trouble shoot using the logic you described. Good to hear from someone in Indiana. I am originally from Wales in the UK but spent my first 4 years in the US in Carmel IN. I visited Bloomington and it is a great town
