Hi, after taking care of most mechanical issues with my car, it is time to work on the Stereo. I've got a 300Zx 1993 NA 2+2 with BOSE OEM and OEM speakers.

I'm pretty sure 3 out of the 4 speakers don't work and the other one sounds bad, also the Head unit (cassette AM/FM) its a hit or miss at this point, so I been reading a lot, and I want to keep my Z as stock as possible (no twitters no sub-woofers or amps, I'm quite old school) and looks like I have 3 options.

I'm looking for the most stock possible and easiest to install.

1. Repair the OEM Bose system, I found this company http://carstereohelp.com/nissan.htm. They seem to repair each speaker for $80 and the Head Unit for around $250. The problem with this is that I end up with only a cassette player and I'm a little short of tapes. Total of $570

2. Replace the entire setup with aftermarket parts.
- Buy 4 Speaker Brackets... ranging from $40 http://srqcustoms.com/shop/vehicle-make ... rear-pair/ to $180 with OEM brackets from Z1.
- 4 Speakers
- Head Unit
- Adapter harness (to use the OEM Bose harness?)
This setup range from $280 up to whatever I wanna spend.

3. Repair the OEM speakers and use an after market Head unit with an adapter. This would be around $400

So here comes all my questions about it.

1. How good are the Bose speakers? are they worth the $80 USD for repair a single unit (with that same $80 i can buy a PAIR of Polk Audio DB652).
2. Can I use the OEM harness and Cables in a completely aftermarket setup with an adapter? if so, which one?
3. Are the brackets, enclosures the same for a coupe to a 2+2?

As far as i know the brackets are the same with the convertible being the only one different. The bose speakers were probably exciting back in the early 90's but by todays standards they leave a lot to be desired. The same goes with the factory head unit, I can understand trying to preserve the factory integrity of the vehicle but thats a lot of money for lackluster sound. If you are set on using factory bose stuff, i have several sets of oem speakers and enclosures/amps. Pay for shipping and they are yours.

The enclosures are different for the rear on a 2+2 model. Mine, a 90 2+2 came with 6.5" enclosures in the rear.

In my case, I also had BOSE stock that someone had torn out of the car and just left the enclosures. It was much easier to replace all the speakers and get a new head unit.

The bose system is trash, unless you have a very specific reason for keeping the car all original I recommend you replace the headunit with somethign modern, rerun speaker wire to each speaker location (the factory wires are capable but really too thin if you plan on running any kind of power to the speakers), and buy all new speakers. I used hardboard to make adapters for my infinity 4.5 2-ways and used the stock boxes (they do actually help with the sound quality).
