I need some help diagnosing my A/C issue. Stock 92 KA24DE Has freon, A/C clutch engages and the A/C blows cold when I first start the car(when the car is cold). Approximately 5min after starting the car, the clutch dis-engages.

I have by-passed the dual pressure switch on the receiver dryer assembly with no change. It stills dis-engages after 5min.

Could it be the expansion valve? If so where exactly is it. The FSM references it but does not show where it is.

What else would cause the system to act this way?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Does it still blow cold after that initial 5 minutes?

Thanks for the reply,

At first I would have said no. But, the last 2 days it came on at weird times. Once about 30mins later of driving and I really got on it. (High Revs) Getting on the freeway. Stayed on for a long time then went off. Then, another time it seemed like after hitting a large bump it came on for a little while. Today it stopped after 5mins and never came back on during my 50min/45mile commute. 100* houston heat sucks!!!

I'm now thinking it could be the compressor.

Thoughts?

yeah it is, but first check the a/c compressor clutch,i know some mechanics can repair it,compressor is bit expensive so try to repair it first.

I actually have 3 compressors in the garage

One that I got with the first car. Then 2 others with the 2 engines I bought to rebuild for the Wife's car and my project car.

Guess what I'll be doing tomorrow
