help with door

Im prepping up my car to get it painted.. I just took off the window moldings and stuff like that.. I took off the door handle and i was wondering if anyone could help me. The problem is this; i took the door handle off and the piece of metal that opens the door came off with it. I was trying to figure out where it goes but i cant find it, i took a flathead screwdriver and i closed the door lock while the door was open so i could see where the friggin deal was but i cant find it... any help guys?

it slid down the small metal rod inside.it's towards the bottom of the inside of the door.if you take off the interior panel on the door you should see it without a problem.

I dont understand. I took off the interior door panels to remove the handle. I have the metal rod that actually opens the door when you pull up on the handle from the outside.. I just need to know where the metal rod goes into

Why don't you just pull the other door handle and look?

Because that would be the smart/easy thing to do, and we all know that's not the way things are done here
