Airfare is booked and travelling over 1500 miles to get a clean Sapphire Blue TTZ. I have to admit I'm pretty excited to be back in a Z. She's bone stock so I want to get some new wheels ASAP but have been having some difficulty figuring out what fits and what doesn't. If I rely on the fitment guides of the various sites I'm shopping on, I'm left with poor choices. I've also seen people use ones that say won't fit.
I have narrowed it down to these 3 rims, please help me out with the following:

-Which of these wheels will fit a twin turbo nicely, without having to roll fenders or worry about rubbing?
-Would spacers be necessary and if so do they cause problems? (heard bearings can wear out prematurely)
-Recommended tire sizes to go with? (I mainly prefer a good ride quality over looks)
-Lastly, any suggestions on which wheel you think would look best on a TK3?

Wheel 1)
TSW Mirabeau - Offered in following sizes:
18 X 8.5 ET 20
18 X 9.0 ET 30
18 X 9.5 ET 40
18 X 10.5 ET 27

Image
Wheel 2) Silver with Machined face
STR 607 - offered in following sizes:
Front 18 X 8.5 ET 30
Rear 18 X 10 ET35

Wheel 3) Matte Gunmetal
STR 607 - Same as above

1. The fact that you are picking up a Sapphire TT makes my blood boil. I love that color. I'm very jelly.
2. There is actually a member here that has the Mirabeaus on his car, they look amazing, I was actually looking at getting them at one time. I don't remember what the specs were, if you search for "300zx mirabeau" it should pull up the thread.
3. Use rimtuck.com and http://www.rimsntires.com/specspro.jsp to research sizing.
4. This is more on a personal note but I personally dont like it when the spokes poke out past the barrel. But to each his/her own.
5. I personally prefer anthracite/gray/gunmetal on darker or richer colored cars and brilliant silver or polished mag on lighter cars. My current Z is Black with anthracite wheels. My Sapphire blue Z had gunmetal at one time and black later on, both looked good but again beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

lol sorry man! It is a pretty sweet color plus the fact that is has just under 50K on it helps!

I checked out the pics of the other member with light blue Z and the Mirabeaus, definitely looks nice! I think his car is an NA.

Good resources, I'll play around with those two sites and see what I come up with.

I'm torn between the darker rim and the darker car. Typically I love the way a lighter car looks with a darker gunmetal/anthracite color so I thought I'd prefer the darker car with a "brighter" rim. I think it's the contrast I like, I feel it may be all too dark with dark on dark. I need to see some wheels in person and hold them up near my car to really be able to tell.

What's your thoughts on 19's on our car, too big?

1. I'm also extremely jelly, I spent two years searching for a reasonable sapphire TT and could only find two well out of my price range- settled for (happily!) my CRP TT, but still want a sapphire one!
2. We have a wheel size helper here on the site in the stickies at the top of the page, it will also help you with our limited wheel/tire choices.
3. I am of the type that prefers contrast to wheel color/styling, and would look at silver or MAYBE a lighter gunmetal color with the sapphire and stay way from dark/dark as it just muddies the picture to me. Not that I haven't seen some very nice cars with well-thought out setups, but my preference is that the wheels stand out a bit while still fitting the car style well.
4. Congrats on the purchase, and be sure to show us the results when you get your wheels and tires done! :bigthumb:

Well, had quite a day on Sunday. I flew all the way to Texas (1500 miles away), saw the car and test drove it and decided it wasn't the right one for me. Then hoped back on a plane and got home just before midnight...long day!

It was pretty clean but rode rough for only have 49k miles. It was loud inside the car, high speed vibrations from the front, some sort of oil leaking underneath near the oil filter, shifter bushings were shot and probably needed rear subframe bushings soon. It was in a previous accident and repainted with some minor frame work involved according to service receipts.

So it's back to the drawing board but thanks for your suggestions DC! Your car looks great, I checked out your upgrade thread..
