Help w/starter please

I posted a message a few days back about my starter noise..it is working but makes a gnashing sound when it starts. My mechanic said it was the bendix sticking whatever that is..do I need to replace the whole starter or can I just fix this problem..let me know..thx George.

take the starter off, clean the shaft and lubricate it lightly with grease.
