Hi My name is Malcolm and im a newbie.Im looking for as much help as i can get. I own a Skyline 350gt 2003 model and up until 5 weeks ago it was running perfect and i was enjoying driving it everywhere. Then i booked it into a local branch of Uplands Car Audio & Security to have a aftermarket alarm / tracker fitted unfortunately the fitter messed up and somehow immobilised my car (NOW BEFORE YOU SAY REMOVE THE AFTERMARKET ALARM ) the fitter never got to fit the alarm the immobiliser cut in while he was testing wires ready for the fitting.I had hoped that all was needed was to recode the key but after having had the key reprogrammed 4 times it still loses its programming when you remove the key from the ignition. So i took the car to my local Nissan dealership and asked them to have a look the car has been in Nissans for the last 4 weeks and they have said they cannot diagnose the problem but they said it may be the body control module so i bought a new BCM which they fitted but it did not cure my problem. Can anyone help me by giving me some ideas that i can try as im at a loss. The full symptoms are as follows the central locking does not work, and the car is immobilised the engine will crank over but not start then if the key is programmed it starts the car but the central lockin still does not work if the key is left in the ignition it will hold the code but if you remove the key from the ignition and leave it out for more than 30 seconds the key looses its code
I will be greatful for any help and advice anyone can give me
Thanks
Malcolm

Malcom, I have moved this thread from the Skyline forum to the G forum. The Nissan Skyline is the US-based Intiniti G so you should get more views here.

Almost sounds like a battery somewhere is no longer charging as the key loses its code. If Nissan has not been able to resolve the issue then you have a major quandary. If it were my car I would demand the company that broke it to either pay and fix it (and pay for a rental car while it's out of commission) or replace the car outright.

Yes it sounds like some type of power issue but if you removed the battery from your car for a week and then put it back you would not lose the code in the key so im not sure why the key loses its code. The company that broke the car is saying that they dont consider it their problem and that it was just a coincidence that the key lost its code while they had the car. They said that they only tested a couple of wires and about an hour later the car immobilised itself. As i said Nissan said i could be the BCM so i replaced that at a cost of 400.00GBP and Nissan wont take it back because they only suggested it might be my problem and would not commit themselfs. They now say it might be the chip in the key so i have had to order a new key at a cost of 70GBP so i have to wait until the 28/06/12 for that to be delivered before i know if that will cure the problem. If anyone has had issues with the chip in the key can you let me know as i would like to know if its a common fault
Thanks
Malcolm

I would also add that I assume you paid for the work via credit card so write a letter to your credit card issuer and demand a chargeback for work not completed in a proper workmanship manner.

Good luck

unfortunatly i paid cash but i dont think i can demand money back from Nissan as they only suggested it might be a fault in the BCM they could not say for definate and the company that had the car when it immobilised did not charge me anything so i cannot request any refund from them

The company who worked on the car is going to deny liability as much as possible. Cars just don't immobilize themselves and if it was such an issue then Nissan would be able to fix it if it were that simple. They had the car, they were working on wiring inside the car, car immobilized itself while in their possession. Open and closed case, IMO.

Time to get a lawyer involved as at this point they owe you a car, the amount you spent at Nissan, and what it costs for a rental.

damn...

I'm hoping its just a faulty key fob... as you stated the code is gone after 30 seconds of removal. The car its self will not lose the code even if the battery is out. Now if a new key dosent fix your problem, then its definatly the after market shop that messed your car up. You replaced the BCM and the key, so the after market shops testing of wires had to cause your problem.

with that said, i always shy people away from remote starts, or elaberate alarm systems for the G because of the Gs coded engine immobilizer system. I mean you really cant get no better than a engine immobilizer as far as security goes on a car.

They couldnt install the tracker as a stand alone device? the G already has an alarm...
