Disaster is striking my car.

Startup is fine, but once started and then stopped the electrical starts to die. My ABS light and HICAS light come on. Then as I pull away from the stop light things get back to normal. I dont know what to do

I am thinking it might be my alternator belt? perhaps battery?

any suggestions?

More than likely it's the alternator itself. Mine failed maybe 3 days after it started doing what you just described.

If you change the alternator/waterpump belt you will have to remove the air conditioner and power steering belts first. Can you please post how you or your mechanic got the power steering pump to move? Any hidden bolts or tricks? I couldn't get mine to move and ended up having to pry the power steering pump belt off the pulley with a screw driver and then pry it back on when finished. I even completely removed the adjustment mechanism and loosened every bolt I saw that could have been keeping the power steering pump from moving.

Test your battery first.

Go to Canadian Tire and pick yourself up a cheap multimeter.

Set it to 12 volts, touch the positive lead to positive on battery and negative to negative with the car off.

If you get 9.6v and above your battery is okay, if you get it at 9.6v and below your battery is no good. Get a new one.

Do your lights dim and go bright at night. If that's the case you need a new alternator.

If you install a new alternator make sure its a Nissan OEM new or remanufactured unit. For whatever reason non OEM alternators don't last on the car.

Hey... Thanks for the help guys

I really am glad I didn't get the new alternator it was simply my battery. I didn't even have to replace it. I was getting build up so what I did was take it out. Used some battery cleaner and a battery brush and a friend told me that if I was getting deposits I should put some vasaline on the posts before I put it back together. Works like a dream now and im reading 9.8v. I am thinking since I am getting deposits the battery will likely die soon but for now were happy.

Thanks again
