I just bought an 03 350z last week with 45k miles on it. A few days ago the battery died and I replaced it and it worked fine until this morning. I went to start the car and every time I turned the key all I got was a clicking noise. Anyone having similar problems or suggestions to fix it?

Thanks, Lauren.

Could be the wires to the battery were not secured enough and came loose or the alternator.

^free post?!

it could be your alternator, terminals, or just a parisitic drain on your batter, i would hope for numbers one an two cause tracking down a drain/short isn't fun.

very likely. could be a lot easier fix than you'd think.

check your voltaguage in the middle of your console. Does it have any charge when you turn the key?

I'm getting the car back from the mechanic for an inspection this morning and I'll make sure everything is tight and check the gauge too. Thanks

couple simple tricks with a voltmeter and ampmeter will help ya diagnose everything. if you dont know how to do a drain test on you battery with ampmeter id be happy to explain it to ya. if you check your voltage with the volt meter while the car is runnig should be 13.5-14.5.

yeah the voltmeter is like 13.5. But the oil gauge keeps going up and down, whats that for?

since you replced the battery you may need to do an ecu reset/ignition reset/throttle position reset since you are having guages moving like crazy..... or you could just try disconnecting the negative battery terminal for about an hour then see what happens when you start it after replacing the negative line.

Most cases if your going thru batteries, its either the alternator or the starter. Now the local auto parts stores will test these things for free to narrow it down for you. Maybe a bad battery on top of a bad battery! At least that would be a less expensive fix than the other two. Also you could try looking at your ground wire really closely to see if there is any corrosion in the line (green and white looking build up around the copper). A bad ground could cause power to your vehicle to be hit and miss or even eventually all out fail.... I've replaced ground wires many times (not on the Z tho), and usually look at that first depending upon the issue.

Let us know what you come up with.

I gotta vote for a bad battery, the car is only 5 years old, and I've had plenty of 5 year batteries, the starter and alternator should last longer, and you should also no have any corrosion on the cables of a 5 year old car
