Hello

I need some advice, I recently bought a Sentra B16 with CVT trans., and love the car. However, when idle, the car has little jolts and the even the revs jolts as well. When accelerating from a stop, sometimes it feels as if the car has no power, and I have to floor it a bit to get a decent speed. What you guys think it could be? Or is it the way CVT works?

Thanks.

Pd.: by the way, when I say idle I mean that the car is not moving. I make this clear because I'm from Latin America, so my english is not that good.

Hello again

A few months ago I had a problem with my sentra. I took it to the dealer and the "fixed" it, changing an ignition coil. However, a few weeks ago I had the same problem (an ignition coil got "burned" so to speak, so the car was performing poorly) and the dealer found out the car has an empty catalytic converter. Could that empty converter be messing up with my ignition coil problem in any way?

Thanks!

Sorta. Depends on which cat. The ones in the exhaust manifold (pre-cat) or the main cat down stream.

If its a precat, get a compression test done, as you may be getting a new engine.

The ignition system is completely seperate from the cats, However if a precat went bad, some of the materials can make its way back to the cylinder, scouring the walls, or at minimum fouling out your spark plugs, making the coil above it, work harder, and thus could kill it. Rare, but it does happen.

They made a compression test a few months ago and they where fine... I hope I don't need a new engine, otherwise I have serious problems :S

If it is a Precat Failure. Nissan has no choice but to replace the engine free of charge. There has only been 3 other cases of Precat failure on the new sentra's. 100,000+ issue's on the 2002-2006 sentra's.

I'll ask for another compression test, if everything goes fine there will be no need to replace the engine right?

What if it's the main cat which is damaged? Could that have any relation with the ignition coil problem? Dealer said it could be messing up with the oxygen sensors

The main cat would give you a check engine light, but it would not effect your upper o2 sensors. The main cat is Just Emission purposes, that is all.
