Hi allI am planning to get a used G35, I am guessing it will be a 2003 or 2004 one.I've done some researches of this car, but there are still some questions that I cannot find unless I drive it.1. I don't know if I should get a stick or auto. Because I was in my friend's 350Z one day, and it was harsh. Like the way how it was driven, there was no comfort what-so-ever. Was it just the driver or its just that the Z&G35 are hurt to drive? I hear that the auto transmission was amazingly programed. How do you guys think?2. I want a G35, but my dad obviously want something thats "USEFUL" which means that it has to be safe and "nice". Does anyone know anything about this car that it has besides what was shown online?http://www.g35club.org/coupe-technical.shtml# I need more info in order to convine my dad.3. Why do people choose the G35 over the Z? I mean, from what I see there are all the same considering they are from the same company.4. Is the short shift( I hope thats what its called) hard? I really don't get the difference between the regular shift and short shift. I guess I am partially influenced by my friend's driving when he had the z. Because I really care about comfort, so if it can't make driving comfortable... Then I really have to reconsider about whether getting a stick or not. Hopefully someone who owns a stick can answer my question!4. Does the maintainance costs a fortune? I heart that its not cheap? Anyone can give me an answer?

And that will be it for now! Thank you times a million for those of you that answer my question!

Hey Jason!

Welcome aboard...

In looking at the 03-04 G, I really wanted the Brembo brake package (I drive an 03 Coupe, manual trans). If you're not in need of such an aggressive brake package, the automatic is a fine machine...

I actually think the automatic G35 might be a little quicker than the 6MT, unless the manual is driven by a very experienced driver.

The differences between the Z and G?

Other than the obvious (G has a back seat, is about a foot longer, and has a useful trunk), they have the same powerplant and are similar to drive. THe G is more luxurious, has more goodies, and is (IMO) a more attractive design.

You really need to go drive both, but unless you're single with no kids, the G will be a better choice than the Z.

Expect to pay between $22-$25K for the G, $19-$22K for the Z.

Maintenance costs are surprisingly low.

That's why we're here, to help you save some cash.

Also, if you get an 04, you can add an extended warranty to 100K miles, which is a great investment. Plan on an additional $1600 (well worth it).

alright, thanks. And yeah, how does it feel driving a stick? I mean is it hard to handle? Or its just the manner of getting used to it or not? Can you kind of share about it with me? :0

It's a nice setup, a little notchy...

Not something you'd want to spend a lot of time in bumper-to-bumper traffic with, tho.

hows the gas doing on this car? 18/24 doesn't really seem too impressive. :/ What do you think of it?

I get about 20mpg.

Keep in mind, it's a sports car, not an econobox. 20mpg is decent for the performance you get.

Hey Jason..Welcome to NICO....I see the Bossman here pretty much helped you already. But I'll throw my 2 cents in..

When I was trying to decide on a Z or a G. I went and test drove them both back to back. I tested the G for about 20mins and the Z for 5mins because I fell in love with the G right away.

I found the Z a much more stiffer ride then the G. Remember they are both Sports cars so you are going to have a little bit of a stiffer ride. But the G is IMO much more comfortable.

In the summer I like to roll the window down and put my arm out, I found that in the Z, I sat so low that if I wanted to put my arm out the window, it was VERY awkward. The storage space is extremley limited in the Z. The dash (to me) is cheaper looking in the Z. The G is so much more refined inside and out. While a Z owner might drive around with his only his gf in the passenger seat, you can drive with your gf and 2 of her hot friends in the G! .... lol

Anyways, like I said, I highly suggest you drive them both back to back. It was an easy decision for me.

I go through alot of gas as I have a very heavy foot, a habit I need to break.

Driving a stick is amazing...you CAN NOT get either of these cars in automatic....I will go there and teach you myself if I have to. Once you learn how to get it out of first gear, the rest is a breeze...practice on your friends Z

There is probably an answer to any question you might have here on NICO now and in the future. If there isn't, we can probably get you one! Utilize this site to it's fullest potential, especially when you have maintenance questions. It may end up saving you $$$$$.

Anyways, hope that helps a bit. I'd be interested to hear what you picked up when you go for your test drives. Let us know why you chose what you did.

Again. Welcome to NICO!

P.S. - Is your Dad looking to adopt another son??

Hahahahahaha! I couldn't stop laughing after I saw the P.S part.I am pretty sure I will get a G35 and not the Z despite the fact that I never drove a Z before in stick. I like the G35 ALOT over the Z.Right now I am just worry about like the small stuff. Since I am only 17, will the insurance be ridiculously high? And GAS! how often do you guys fill up considering how much you guys drive?

Does your 2005 have the same airbag setup as the 2006? With both side and curtain airbags the owners manual for my 2006 specifically warns against riding with your arm out the window.

Good question...I believe it does...but I'm gonna double check.

As far as gas jlo0109 ...I'm the worst to ask...I pretty well rip it everywhere I go. So I use ALOT of gas...I can't help it

I'm not sure what your insurance rates are where you live, I'm in Toronto Canada, I'm also 33 years old, never made a claim and have a perfect driving record (don't ask me how). I pay about $230.00 a month.

I highly suggest you take some kind of driving course, when I was younger I thought it was Bullcrap...but now that I am older, my insurance is very low and it has saved me $$$ in the long run. Well worth it!
