I have a 1994 Infiniti J30t, 135k miles, with a problem. The engine malfunction light comes on when driving. Sometimes it goes on and off, other times I see it for just a second or two. Car starts just fine when cold. Runs fine also. When starting again after driving, it will not start. No noise, all lights come on. If I keep trying it will eventually start. All belts, battery, and alternator have recently been replaced. I am also losing some coolant but it was pressure tested by mechanic and no leaks found. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Love this car but hate it also, it is at the point where I cannot depend on it.

The CEL going on and off is what Mine did when the EGR tubes were clogged.Does it seem to happen when you get up to highway speed?

I might add when mine did that I never had a hard time starting.

Might be two differant issues.

Also, did you get a OEM alternator or a parts store replacement ?

The car is fine at highway speeds. Once started, it drives just fine. When I turn off engine then try to restart a few minutes later or even up to a half hour afterwards I have problems. I didn't get an oem replacement alternator. They were out and I received one from Pepboys. Could this possibly be the problem?thanks.

get the code from the ECM would be the first step i would take if i were you, when the check engine light go on and off, it is trying to tell you something, listen to it.

Yes, could be one of the problems.

The rule of thumb for J30's are to stick to either new or rebuilt Nissan units. No aftermarket! Aftermarket alternators are known to cause all sorts of "mysterious" headaches. Prblems stemming from non-oem alternators are well odcumented on this forum and others.

BTW....Welcome to NICO!!!

on the restarting thing.Take a whiff of your oil dipstick. If you smell gas you have a leaky Injector.Flooding a cylinder would do what you say is happening. When it finally starts is there a miss for about 10 seconds then it runs smooth?

If left overnight it will start right up because after the fuel pressure is gone the fuel will seep past the rings into the crankcase.

If so thats what mine did with a leaky injector. If so REPLACE IT as it could end up with a hydrolock which will bend valves and such .. Not good.

Need HELP. On this forum for check engine light, some one mentioned adjusting the electronic unit where the intake rubber hose met the intake manifold by moving it forward some. I did that and now the car won't start at all and the engine won't turn and even though the battery shows charged, it won't turn. All lights are out. Is this a security related stuff or what do I do to start the car?

Will appreciate any comments.

i dont think that adjusting the TPS (throttle position sensor) would not let you start the engine (it has nothing to do with starting the engine)

is the engine cranking atleast????
