OK, so i am trying to install a Pioneer deck into my 1990 s13 240sx. The original stereo was stolen when while owened by someone else. so i dont have any mounting brackets, or the pocket. but thats not my problem.

I read some other threads and was able to get the power/grnd/and all speaker wires connected, the cd player will read the cd, but now sound through speakers. now i read something about an amp in the door, but i don't understand exactly what i need to do to bypass it err whateva. this is my 1st time doin dis.

Any help?

Some of the 240's (not sure what year, models, etc.) came with a factory amp. This means that in addition to wiring up the speakers, you also need to run a wire from the head unit to teh amp telling it to turn on (consult the wiring diagram for the stereo you just bought). Of course the easiest way, and probably best way to do it is just wire the speakers up directly to the head unit yourself (bypass the amp). The factory amp is probably in less than desireable condition anyway. Its pretty simple to do. I am not exactly sure where the factory S13 amp would be located (i have a S14), however, if someone says they are in the door, pop off your door panel and take a look, should stick out like a sore thumb. You really should post this in the stereo forum. There are guys there who know a lot more about stereos than i do. Good luck.

Hook up the light green wire with red stripe in the car to the amp turn-on wire on the radio, should be blue. Done.

The best idea for simplicity and quality would be to bypass the factory amps and go direct to the new deck. The front amps are behind the speakers and the rear amp is behind the left rear speaker. If you wired the factory amps to the high power output of the new deck, you will probably end up blowing the factory amps because they are made for a low power input. (Hence, amplifier) This may also blow up your new deck. Bypassing the factory amps will give you better sound quality and you will not need the remote lead. This is how I set up my S13, and it was fairly easy to do.

Some receivers have a switch on the back I think that turns off the internal amp so it only sends a preamp signal and runs cooler. I'm not sure if this means anything just a thought.

Nope, means nothing. And there are no switches on the back of any deck. there may have been one model, but no.

As for kfm...if what R240NA said doesnt help, trust me, just bypass it all. youre going to want to add your own amps down the road, so you'll have to rewire everything anyways. Its a pain to rewire, trust me, it sucks...but worth it.

i had the same problem as the subject of this thread. i hooked up light green wire from my car harness to my jvc s150 and i got sound. seems pretty good. i have the factory speakers that came with 91 240sx. will my sound improve by bypassing factory amps?

i was back at the TCM thread, and i wanted to ask if by installing a new stereo unit also affect the TCM circuit board, because i previously had the TCM burned out already, and when i replaced it and turned on the light switch , it burned out again (Ive been trying to fix my dash lights). So by bypassing the amp, and replacing my TCM, woudl definately make btoh ym stereo and my dash lights to work right?
