*Update: 93 Sentra now gets no power/Alarm malfuction?

A great resource for Nissan Sentra, Infiniti G20, 200sx, Pulsar, NX1600, NX2000, Tsuru, Primera and Sunny owners.

Update on my old post...
Is it still monday? Cuz I got the blues so bad with this 93 Sentra.
This had a old Audiovox car alarm on it and I didn't even think it worked, the previous owner didn't say it even had one, until I saw it under the hood.
After trying to disconect it and remove it, now I get NO power at all?
I called a alarm instal place & gave him the part number, he said just to remove the black box. But that didn't help.
It looks like some of the wires spliced into the ignition right by the steering wheel...I do great tuneups, but electrical stuff is a bit harder.
Please someone help stop this week full of Monday blues.

Hello all,
Sorry for my 1st post to be one of trouble but I need some help frlom the experts.
I just bought a 93 Sentra XE with "Mega Miles" but it ran good & didn't smoke and I was/am limited on funds & have always liked the Nissan's reliability so I got it...
Only to have extreme driveability issues the very next day & time I tied to start it.
It just sounded like it was running (Barely) on 3 cylinders.

So I checked the plugs and the 1st one was fouled & had a huge gap & oil around it....It was a NGK, the others looked dcent and were Autolite plugs...So I swapped out those for all new NGK Plt plugs and of course broke off part of the metal on the 1st one & had to replace that sparkplug wire too.
But...It still runs like crap...

It doesn't smoke & the Dist cap & rotor looked pretty new but the gasket around it was falling apart due to the mass amount of oil that had been leaking from the valve cover gaskets, (I tightened them up, no more leaks.

*I just found a vacume hose that attaches into the transmission that I didn't see where it goes to yet.
Any help is MUCHO appreciated!

Welcome to Nico!

Over the years of owning my sentra, I have learned it does NOT like platinum plugs. The standard NGK BKR5E/6E plug works just fine. You need to check to make sure you have spark and fuel to each cylinder. Start with cylinder 1 and remove the plug, attach the spark plug wire and lie it on the valve cover. Start the car and make sure that plug is putting off a spark. If so, reinstall the plug and repeat steps for the next 3 plugs. If you determine that you have spark to each cylinder, now you must check to see if the fuel injectors are firing. Start the car, undo the harness for the first injector, if that cylinder is firing properly the engine should stumble and run worse, if so plug the harness back in and repeat steps for the other 3 injectors. If you pull the harness off and you receive no change in the way the motor runs, which should be worse, then you have found your culprit.

Report back with your findings and we will go from there.

I agree with most of that, but you are probably going to want to disconnect your fuel injector to the cylinder that you are testing spark on. If you lay it on your valve cover, the piston will be blowing the fuel/air mixture out of the spark plug hole, which could ignite from the spark plug that is laying on the valve cover... catching your stuff on fire.

Good luck! :bigthumb:

That could be an issue but I have never ran into that issue. Now if the cylinder is already flooded then you may have problems. If that is the case, unplugging the harness won't amount to much because there is already too much fuel in that cylinder to start with. To circumvent that problem, remove fuel pump fuse and start car and let it die out. Now begin removing spark plug but don't plug it into spark plug boot just yet. Next you want to tap the ignition turning the engine over. This will compress any fuel in that cylinder out so be careful. If no large quantities of fuel come out, then proceed to checking for spark as mentioned above. Complete the process for each spark plug and if neither of the cylinders are flooded and have spark, it's time to check injectors. Make sure all plugs are installed and put fuel pump fuse back in and start car up. Check the injectors as I described in my first post.

When you have the plugs out you should be able to tell which plug has been firing based on it's condition, especially since they are new.

If anyone of those cylinders has to much fuel it from the beginning of your tests, that is your problem, you have a leaky injector o ring which needs to be replaced. By too much I mean it literally shoots out of the cylinder when you turn the ignition over.

Thanks alot for the imput guys...But NOW I have yet another issue...this car had a old alarm system in it that is literlly falling apart but now its not even turning over because (I think) is malfuctioning & won't let it turn over!
UGH...Is it monday already?
