Ok. So I finally got my engine dropped into the car and I was adding antifreeze into it when I noticed something. I had a small leak on the back of the block. Upon closer inspection, the hose that was leaking was the one coming off the metal pipe going to the oil cooler. It's a bit of a fuss to change (had to remove the axle and the oil filter+cooler) but so far it's ok. While I was under there I noticed that a nipple coming off the metal pipe wasn't attached to anything so I thought I would ask where it goes to.

Description of the heater hose:

There's a metal pipe that comes out of the block thats about 3" long. It's just knocked in there and held in place. Off that metal piece is a 90 degree plastic hose. This plastic hose couples another metal pipe thats about 1' long and about 1.5" in diameter. Off this long metal hose comes a few nipples. Starting from the part closest to the 90 plastic coupler you have a nipple that goes to the oil cooler. After that there's another nipple (mine isnt being used and thus the reason why im writing this). Then as you follow the metal pipe you will find 2 nipples somewhat close together. These go to your heater (the 2 nipples sticking out of the firewall). After that there are a few miscellanious nipples that go to the turbo and then it finally ends with the end of the metal pipe that connects to a large plastic hose that goes to the lower part of the radiator.

Now as I described, the second nipple that comes off the metal pipe on the back, I was going to block it off but if it's vital for something, I wanted to know what it went to so I won't be restricing anything of antifreeze

Thanks =D

Nah, that hose is too far away... actually, wait. It could be since in the FWD engines, the TB is swapped from the left side of the intake to the right. My TB cooling line is now set by the turbo cooling line.

the CA and RBs have a ton of stupid little hoses, I have blown them many times. Each is a preformed little nightmare and I ripped them all off. There is a large hose that runs from the bottom of the thermostat housing towards the back of the engine. Along the way various little annoying hoses branch off. I would suggest replacing the rats nest with a single hose going from the thermostat housing to the block and similarly simplifying the heater hoses, find where to go into the engine and come out and run direct lines bypassing and other connections. You will eliminate the need to get at least 90% of the little preformed hoses. Be sure to confirm what you are removing though, just because the hose doesn't come from the engine it may still have a connection to the water jacet somehow and spew water so don't just yank without thinking.
