Whenever the fan goes to high the fuse blows after a few minutes of operation. To avoid this I manualy set the fan speed to the 3rd position which avoids the fuse problem. However while in this position it seems to "hunt" speed up and slow down on its own. I know that on auto it is supposed to speed up and slow down as the temp in the car reaches set point however it seems to speed up and slowdown repeatedly in quick succession. Should I be looking at the fan itself or is there a resistor that might be faulty? Thanks for any help you can provide.

Owner failure to replace or rehabilitate HVAC fan when the motor becomes worn and slows down --------drawing excess current blowing fuse.

Replace HVAC motor and clean AC core BEFORE it burns out the fan speed controller!

In the FSM in the Body section there's instructions for removing the glove box. After that, remove the metal brace and the blower fan is staring you in the face.

Chances are your fan blades are full of dried dirt and its too much weight for the blower motor to turn it without burning a fuse. When my fan control amp burned up my blower blades were caked thick in dirt.

Remove the blower motor assembly, then remove the blade assembly from the motor and clean it off real good. Chances are you've stressed your fan control amplifier which sits in a rectangular cutout adjacent to the fan motor. It may need to be replaced also ($65 new). Just in case, check the operation of the blower before reinstalling the glove box.

While you've got the fan control amplifier out clean the crud off the condenser face. Air will flow much better. Most cars have a cabin filter for this but not the Q45.

I have a nice fan motor (but not the fan control amp) for sale if you need one. Good luck.

That is not the G50 Q45. All others do have cabin filters.

I stand corrected. The 90-96, G50, Q45 does not have a cabin filter. From Brian's statement later model Q45's do have a cabin filter.

Hey Goody, I took out my motor and fan wheel was really quite clean, bushing however are worn and brushes and armature are very warn out. Looks like I will need a new motor shortly. How much do you want for your motor? Is it new?

Used motors are iffy as they are the same age no newer than 1996 made in 1995 [13.5 years old].

But they are a fairly rare failure item... and if they haven't been exposed to undue moisture causing corrosion, their failure should be more related to revolutions (directly related to mileage) than age...
