So I purchased headers and a Y-pipe and I'm looking to install them this weekend. How hard is it to get to the Headers? I know the Y-pipe will be simple but Im not to sure about the headers.

Please tell me you didn't purchase those separately. If you did, I'm afraid you'll have to find some way to return the y-pipe as the headers come with a y-pipe

Anyway, the only thing that's going to give you trouble is installing the rear exhaust manifolds. If you don't have a lift, it's doable but definitely very difficult. You are going to have to remove the crossmember with the front and rear motor mounts, and sort of tilt the engine forward using a jack so that you have enough clearance to remove/install the rear exhaust manifolds. Even then, it's a pretty tight fit. With the fronts, all you need to do is remove the fans, and you'll have enough room to work with. And as you mentioned the y-pipe is cake. Good luck!

the only thing that caught me up was the Y-pipe rested against my oil pan. i just let it run for a bit then used a pry bar to move it away. no real probs other than that. well, i had a lift, so that made it easier. sad part is the lack of HP gains on VQ30DE A/T. i have I/H/E, UR pulley and still only dyno at 168.6.

I didnt purchase them seperatley, So i shouldnt have any problems with them fitting together. That sounds like a lot of work because I dont have a lift, but I do have a mechanic friend that will be helping me do the install. How hard is it to remove that crossmember? Is there a write-up on this anywhere?

Thanks for the help

The x-member is just bolt on. The only thing you're going to have problems with is having room to work. If you can get your mechanic friend to let you use his lift (or even have him install it) I strongly suggest it, because it'll take you a good 6-8 hours installing it yourself on jackstands.

The guy helping me is an ex-mechanic. We work on my car in his garage at his work. He works for a drilling company so we have a massive building full of tools, but unfortunatley no lift. It looks like it will be me, him, and some jack stands. I guess ill take pictures and do a write up just incase it would be useful to anyone else in the future.
