Is it safe to shave .044" off a DOHC head? ... Would that possibly cause cam seizure due to the misalignment?

Take roughly .044" off the head to reduce the chamber cc's from 70.11 cc to 62.73 cc ... ?

Cyl. Volume = 595.96 cc Total Volume = 145.5 ciBore = 3.500"Stroke = 3.780"Stock CR = 9.5:1

Basically trying to get from 9.5:1 to 10.5:1

Is it entirely too much? I've heard of people taking .080" off of P79 280Z heads with shims on the cam towers and springs. Would I need to run the same given that the cam journal's have very minimal tolerance?

What is the valve to piston clearance at the real combustion temperature...........when both expand and stretch at high rpms.

what motor? ka24 you should be able to adjust valve lash to avoid relocating the cams(if that is what you were considering). sr20, im not sure if the hla's compensate for that much or not. only one way to find out(well two actually, there is always trial and error) pull them suckers and sqish 'em by hand(with mechanical leverage of some sort). i am leaning towards them not having enough room though. also you will have to adjust cam timing, but you prob already thought of that.

off top of head im thinking ka24. duh, should have put two and two together. anyway, the front cover may need to be trimmed to fit. to tell you the truth i think a set of pistons would be the answer. mostly because of what q45tech mentioned about possible valve interferance. this would be aggravated by some hot cams. are you trying to up the comp on the cheap or something?
