Long time, no post.

So I've got a 94TT with a blown head gasket.

I'm going to do the job with the engine in the car. I plan on dropping the tans, then remove the turbos from the bottom, to make the head pull less spaghetti, rather than pulling the heads with the turbos and DPs attached.
I'm not in the position to pull the motor, which would be ideal, but alas is not the case. I'm hoping with the trans out of the way it'll help in some.

If anyone can think of any technical road blocks with doing this, please share!
Thanks!

do you fully understand what it means to do a plenum pull on a z32?
most owners go insane from attempting it.
if you havnt done it before, buy all the electrical connectors, fuel rail spacers, seals and hoses first. there are even o-rings in the pressure equalising tube running from the AIV.

Yeah, I've done it a few times. I'm no stranger to the Z, or wrenching on cars. I'm fully capable to the job.

I'm just seeing if anyone had any thoughts on doing the job as I laid out. Without pulling the engine.

Pull the engine. If you plan to remove the trans you might as well pluck the engine out, it's not much work beyond what you've already planned, and it will make turbo removal so much easier it will likely take less time in total.

That's what I figured. I had sold my hoist a few years back, because I figured I wouldn't be doing anymore stupid projects. Yet, here I am again.

So the new question is: Would the time/effort I'd be saving taking the engine out be worth buying another lift?
...I'm feeling the answer is yes. lol

When I pulled the motor from my trans am i made a hoist... pulled teh car onto my porch under my deck, popped on of the flooring boards out of the deck above and used a 4" cast iron pipe laid across teh supports. few wraps of chain around it adn then suspended Block and Tackle from that. plucked the motor out easily, pushed the car back out of the way and put the motor on a stand.

granted reinstallaton was a touch awkward, but I ended up putting the front wheels onto those little dollys and then I could adjust where the car was positioned sice the motor would only move up and down. Ghetto, but it worked.

I unfortunately don't have a deck. If I did, I would consider that. haha

That was my original plan, but I'm not wild about pulling all the mess out at once. I figured getting the trans out of the way I can get to stuff from the bottom to make pulling the head less cumbersome. I'm not just not wild about spending another 300 bucks on a hoist and stand again.

Buy a used one on craigslist then sell it on craigslist when you are done, or find a friend willing to loan one out. Mine has been in rotation between friends for many years.
