I have a 98 qx4 with 120,000 miles and I was diagnosing a squeaking sound in my belt system. I removed the air conditioning belt to isolate the alternator belt. I started the motor and it looked like the harm. balancer was wobbling. I shut it off and the balancer looks like it slid out 1 belt length. Nothing lines up and the balancer seems to be tight, I cant find any radial or axial play anywhere. I am dumbfounded. Does it slide in and out for constant adjustment? Am I just screwed? Any help or advice would be appreciated.

That's a new one to me... I've never heard of that!

Hopefully someone will be along with something more useful to say. Welcome to NICO!

Typically they are "keyed" and should not slide or wobble at all. If they do, you have big problems as the crankshaft is the part it is attached to. I would not drive the car for failure of the unit could really cause serious damage!! If you have a puller, you could remove and inspect, and re-assemble. Bolt is tight and torqued right????

I checked our shop history on that part number. Here is an example of a complaint:

CSTS SQUEAL NOISE FROM ENGINE AT IDLE INTERMITT (BELT TYPESQUEAL) CK & ADV. Replaced with:12303-0W001 ASR 1 PULLEY-CRANKSHAFT J05 1 180.50 Your cost on one of these from me is $161.16 (the total above is actually warranty price)This repiar was done on a 1997 model. I do stock it & have sold 5 in the past year. I'll ask one of my techs tomorrow & re-post, hope this helps a little!

I started the motor up yesterday and I noticed that the power steering belt section on the crankshaft pulley is still in place. It is just the double ribbed section that appears to be out of place. It still looked as if it was wobbling. I appreciate the help with this....if I cant come up with a reasonable explanation for this I am going to have to pay somebody to fix this and I dont want to do that. It has been down for a while though and it is time to do something, anything. Semper fi
