I have a stock '93 hardbody 4x4 and im wanting to do an SR20 swap into it, i know it can be done just trying to figure out if the bell housing on the ka truck transmission will bolt up or if i will need an adaptor plate.

you can use the sr bellhousing, just swap the sr bellhousing to the ka transmission. theres a writeup about it. diy-swapping-sr-bell-housing-to-ka-tran ... l#p2942885. try google next time found it in about 10 seconds.

thats cool, its pretty much a bolt in affair, minus minor fabrication to motor mounts to make motor sit straight. if you use ka transmission should be able to use driveshaft.

And is this gonna be any different since the truck is 4x4?

ive seen a couple of 4wd's do the same thing, but dont have exact details of how they got it to work. if anything you might have to get the rear driveshaft shortened, but if you change the bellhousing it "SHOULD" work but thats a big should. the only other problem you might run into is the oilpan being to deep, might hit sway bar, this can be fixed by getting aftermarket oilpan

Ok I think the oilpan should be fine ill be sure to let it know how it goes since it has a 3" body lift on it should have plenty of clearance up on the front end. I'm gonna try to do a write up on my build since no one else has done it. Thanks for your help

I've read that somewhere and was told to look into the v6 swap or diesel but I got a 4x4 shell with transmission and a sr20 for $1500its not going to be an off road truck it will be my daily which I will get better mileage than my last truck as long as I'm not boosting around

Im pretty bias when it comes to choosing KA over SR cause i like the .4 displacement, but the SR is way more straight forward when it comes to Turbo cause it comes with one, good luck with your build

has anyone heard of having to get a custom oil pan made for the sr into the hardbody? im not sure if im only having the issue because its a 4x4 but the oil pan is sitting right on my steering rack to the point the tires wont turn.

that's because the 4x4 is a rear sump oil pan, the SR20 you have is probably a front sump. you need to read up on how to convert to rear sump on the sr20 oil pan.

first google result:

ya i understand its a front sump and the ka is a rear i was just wondering if anyone knew of how to convert it. i saw a different post on another forum of the guys oil pan and it was brought back 6 inches or so so it was shallow in the front. but at this point i dont have the time for it anymore so its up on craigslist for the next contender. im in the central florida area if anyone local is interested. i can be reached at 3218484292
