That's pretty funny, since GPS has nothing to do with detecting "red light cameras"! And they even state, Camera detectors help you to become a safer driver by making you more aware of your speed and reminding you about areas where you need to make sure you are paying attention. Don't you suppose you should be paying attention all the time you're driving, especially when you're coming up to a light that's red??!

80% of auto accidents involve driver distraction.* When speed cameras are placed in accident blackpots, using a camera detector makes sure that you are not distracted at a vital time, i.e. when you're driving along that stretch of road that has a bad history of accidents. Camera detectors remind you to be paying attention when you need it most.

Wouldnt this thing distract us more when we drive near an intersection, while looking at it to see if there is no cameras.

Red light camreas are just for revenue anyway. For every T-bone accident they prevent, they cause almost 2 rear end accidents because they alter the light timing (short yellow) to maximize revenues... causing drivers to be paranoid and brake too hard in heavy traffic. Rear end accdents are less dangerous, but it's been proven that simply increasing the "all red" time, has an equal or greater safety imrpovement over red light cameras.

I have quite a few family members that live in the UK. The GPS just has a huge database of where red light and speed cameras are set up. Works the same way as a POI....ie--> gas stations, shops, food. You can set it to beep as you come up on one so your aware of it. Stateside i don't think this is that useful yet. Over there they have alot more cameras than we do and it is somewhat helpful.

Wow...just wow guys

And how would this thing distract you? If all you have to do is listen for it. Its your fault if you take your eyes off the road to look for the camera.

Im not saying it would be useful, but then again im not saying it wouldnt be useful. Im not saying to go get it or that its a good idea. Im just sharing it with you guys just to see if anyone would be interested.

Hey motoguy128: Where did you find all that out?

And for the record (not trying to be an @ss at all btw) here are a couple sites talking about how the gps and red light cameras come into play

"Cheetah GPS locates red light cameras, photo radar"http://www.ktar.com/?nid=6&sid=898024

"This GPS detector is not a navigation system but is does use the same SiRF Star III technology as the top nav units like Garmin and TomTom.http://www.gpsdetector.com/scs....html

And I see what your saying kc5f about how gps doesnt really detect the cameras. But the gps has a big role in letting you know where they are.

And motoguy128...nvm lol, there is a section on the site above ^ that says pretty much the same thing you did lol.

I don't know sounds like a good product or rather a good idea I wouldn't buy it though, Just another distraction. Anyways all of the red light cameras in Minnesota were outlawed due to something, more states seem to be following now. So it seems to be a waste of money. Anyways try using your eyes they are safer to.
