Dan, you won't go wrong either way. The only complaint I've ever really heard about SIGs is that they have a high bore axis, which translates to a little more kick. I think those people are mainly p****** however.

they do feel a bit top heavy.

the 239 I've shot has a lot of muzzle flip.

still shoots great though.

Yeah, I dunno, still gonna look at them both closer, but still leaning towards the XD.

I'd have to use a grip extension on it before i'd even consider looking at it again, but still didn't feel good with my hand wrapping around it. I was really disappointed as that was one my 2 big choices to look at.
Then I can suggest to you that the Glock 27 is out. If you need a grip extension (Bud waits for comment from Andy on this one) then you wouldn't like the Glock 27. Did you try to Glock 22?

Anyway, I dont think you can go wrong with a Sig Sauer. Just ask Andy about our friend Nick that nearly blew his hand off, but it was his Sig that saved him from having to go to the hospital.bud

Yeah, that's probably Nick's last foray into handloading.

He loaded his .45 ACP a bit hot to say the least. It expanded the case so hard that he could not retract the slide on his P220, it sent hot gases out of the side of the pistol burning his hand but ultimately did not damage the weapon. A lesser pistol probably would have blown up, or at least needed the barrel replaced.

Since I am biased I would say go with Sig but realistically I would go for the XD. I plan on getting an XD here pretty soon. I love my Sig 226R .40, totally worth the $700 I paid for it. I have put about 2000 rounds through it and can still empty the magazine in a 3inch circle group.

I have been looking at getting another handgun lately and pretty much got the wifey convinced. I looked around and I am liking the XD more and more.

I know glocks are awesome guns and nothing but good things to be heard about them but I just really can't get myself to like them.

What is interesting, I was going through my IDPA results and I was looking at the class structure. The XD is placed in Enhanced Service Pistol and the Glocks and SIGs are placed in Stock Service Pistol class.

What does an 'enhanced' catagory entail as opposed to a 'stock' catagory?

I love the .357 Magnum...but I think Dan wants an Auto.

otherwise I'd tell him to save about 6 grand and get a Korth Combat.

or about 1100 for a really sweet Python.

Don't Miss.

one of my favorite pistols to shoot is a .357 snubby.

Ruger SP-101's rock. I need to get a pair to hang in a comfy shoulder rig.

New York reload ftw.

also, don't miss and you won't have to worry about the reload. unless there's six attackers...then uh....good luck.

You're a bigger guy, I'd say go with a .45 right off the bat.

I'd recommend a USP, maybe the shorter "tactical" model if you ever have carrying aspirations.

Why the .45??? .40 works just as well and you have greater capacity with a smaller frame.

for reals.

XD .45 on the other hand....it's not much difference. USP has a considerably bigger grip though.

and the tactical is full size with a threaded barrel.

.40 is an excellent caliber.

I have a huge advocate of the .357 Magnum pistol. I love the fact that I can shoot .357 and 38 Special. And .357 is a good home defence pistol as well.

yup.

it's one of my favorites.

Very versatile and most revolvers are fairly small and comfortable to wear with great stopping power.

I'm gonna own a 4 inch Python within 5 years.

All this talk about guns makes me wish the I had my stock money from our sale (Sept) for this month's gun show. I wouldn't mind going bananas with several thousands of dollars.

I'd come back with a Benelli or a Python or a M1A Socom...or an SVD.

One of the next things I wanna pick up is a good long range rifle...maybe a Savage Tactical in .300 Win Mag....they're usually found less than 1000 and a heck of a bargain for what you're getting.

...The tactical is the longest of the USP...

The Compact 9mm is the shortest, the Compact .45 and .40 are a little bigger but not by much.

I love the USP, but the Compact was a little small in my hand. I'd shoot it a bit before you commit.

go shoot both.

a lot of shop/ranges have both for rental.

I like my XD..I don't get to shoot it ever...but I like it better than the couple Glocks I've shot.

Repo lives for Glock however.

either is a good choice...once again, it's a preference issue.

CDNN always has good prices on used SIGs. It's a great way to get a great gun at a great price. 9mm, though, and they don't come with a rail to get all tacticooled out on (I think, but I don't really look for them).

I don't like lights on my handguns. If it's late and I hear a ruckus in my room, I want to be pointing a flashlight at my roommate, not my pistol.

Also, James, I thought the XD was striker-fired?

<Next on the list is a subcompact XD in 9mm

they are.

when the gun is racked, it's cocked back and fires like a regular singleaction.
