Halo,

I recently added a Boost gauge to the Datsun.

Can anyone give me an indication of what a good vacuum reading should be for a healthy engine?

Mine is running 20 inch Mercury( 9.9 psi/0.7 bar) at 900rpm.

Another Question ,

I`am looking at installing a Apexi,SAFC.

It looks like it will work with the CA18 ecu?

Will i be able to ad a Z32 maf ,and then sort out the fuel tuning with the SAFC?

Lastly :

Anyone know of a piggyback system that can alter the ignition timing?

Karis

18-20in is good vacuum for a healthy motor. When your crusing on the highway it can get as high as 25in.

I have no idea what mine reads, because Autometer cannot build gauges that work. I think it gets around 10-12in on startup, and then 15-18 when warm. I do have the TB cracked so the engine will idle though.

I would rather have a Greddy E-Manage Ultimate than any SAFC product. The SAFC just doesn't work as well as I would like. Tuning on that little knob sucks, much better to do it with a laptop.

cracking the TB will hurt your idle readings because of the velocity / pressure drop since it has a larger surface area to come in through than the normal idle thing... probably if you had a "proper" idle control setup it'd be more normal reading..

this won't affect non idle driving of course, but makes it impossible to use idle readings as any sort of diagnostic

Thanks! Now i feel more at ease.

Well,i will be looking at the SAFC II.The one with the knobs just plain sucks!

Only thing with the E-manage is : It still cant alter the timing like i want it too.The SAFC II is half of the price of it!

There is an optional Ignition harness available so you can adjust the timing.

greddy emanage blue, perhaps the cheapest piggyback to control fuel & timing. Some 300hp ca18s use EM blue. A good ca18/EM writeup somewhere on here.Needs a laptop to tune tho

trick with the timing is to advance the CAS an use the EM for the retard curve

Hmm i see!

The biggest factor at this stage is cost.I can get the SAFC II for a decent price. The Emanage is allso available,it costs a hell of allot more ,even without the Timing harness. SAFC II R3300 ; Emanage R5700

Lastly , I really dont want another car that i have to use a laptop for tuning. My beetle is allready like that. Havent gotten to tuning yet.But the hassle is a bit annoying.

I like to tinker with settings, hahaha

*Edit* where can i find specs on the Apexi SITC? Darnit, not much on Google

Not to thread jack at all here but my s13 sr gets about 23.5 in mg at idle when warm and sometimes goes higher (depending on how i've been driving). is this a problem some how? When i first installed the boost gauge it always read 20 no matter what but then i tightened some stuff up and it went up to about 23.5.
