If it were me choosing a car, I would narrow it down to either the 240sx (of course!) or the MR2. If she can't decide what she wants, just pick the most of mechanically sound of the two or three cars.
For what it's worth, I believe the N/A MR2's got an increase in HP in 1993 (up to 135hp for a 2600lb car - not bad). They have timing belts and not chains, and have non-interference engines, so no worries if the belt snaps.
I'm not sure how MR2's are with maintenance, but you might want to lurk in some Toyota/MR2 forums to get a feel for the cars.
Anyway, I love my 240SX but there's definitely no shame in going with the MR2. BTW, my girlfriend refuses to take my advice on car buying. She still wants an Audi TT and not a 350Z!
