About 2 weeks ago (just in teim for Halloween), the passenger side seat would mysteriously recline overnight. In the morings I would press the recline button and move it back to the up-right possition; and night the ghost would recline the seat all the way back.

I have performed mode 1, 2 and 5? LAN tests and the switch (LAN 02) and the Local Control UNit (LAN 06) check out ok. I think there is a short somewhere, in the connections, LAN 02, LAN O6, the recline motor or in the BCM.

Has anyone had a similar problem?

Thanks,

Stephen

Maybe the switch is sticking? Spray some electrical contact cleaner in the switch (or maybe WD40) -- just a little.

Have you checked your [kids/neighbors] for other noctural nefarious activities, maybe someone is using it for a bed. Do you lock the doors?

Doesn't do it in day time with equal time away? Try driving with lights on in morning then off at work.

Hey Q45 Tech, thanks for your help. Actually, its now also doing it during the daytime while I'm driving. My plan of attack is to find a second gen Q45 (94 to 96) and pull the BMC, LCU 02, LCU 06 and the reclining motor. I have no electrical training, but it appears to me the switch in the motor is closing thus causing the motor to recline the seat. If after replacing those items (one at a time), I still have the problem, I think there must be a short some where in the wiring. Oh well, if that happens, I will ask the NICO board guys for advice on tracking/fixing a short. Again, thanks for your help.

That would be where I start. A few years ago, I sat in a Zaxby's drive-thru (anyone who's been to one of these places knows how long that can take, but great chicken strips!) listening to a cycling relay click in the rear of the car. Drove me nuts trying to figure out what it could be. I could tell it was electrical because the lights would change ever so slightly. Turns out the window switch on the RR door was stuck in the "roll up" position.

Ok, I think I've got this thing beat. The seat got to the point where it would go all the way back and I couldn't get it to come upright. So I did a LAN test again (Mode II?) and it showed the LAN was not recognizing the switch. Since Joe T wanted $285 for the switch I got one from my local salvage yard. Installed it, and so far the ghost has been exorcised.

Thanks to everyone for their help.

BTW, the switch unit is actually a chip module, so there are no contacts to clean.
