MY CA18DET motor is bone stock, but the stock turbo seal has blown so I have decide to purchase the GT2871R as the upgrade replacement. My only other mods is Apexi Dunk exhaust.I do not have any boost or fuel controller at the moment, so I would be only running stock boost. Would my car run fine with just the turbo swap?? or do I need addition parts just to get it running properly since this is a much bigger turbo.

honestly, I think the actuator on that turbo won't go lower than 12psi. You will max out your injectors and maf long before 12psi.

Looks like I would need bigger injectors and Z32 MAF at least.

Just wondering how would the car behave if I maxed out the injectors and MAF?

You also need a SAFC at least to allow your engine to use those injectors and MAF.

You cannot use them without the SAFC.

EPROM is cheaper.... $50 to get it socketed.... then bribe one of the members to burn you a base rom.

Thanks for the reminder.

I eventually wanted to get standalone to eliminate the MAF, boost controller, fuel controller. Thought I could get away by running stock boost in the mean time until I save enough for it.

Yeah c-rad is right. A rom would be cheaper, but the safc seems a little more idiot-proof than PCB's and IC's.

Also there has to be other ways to get rid of the stock boost controller.

Edit: I am not calling you an idiot, BTW.

SAFC sounds good, as I have experienced with it on my Honda Prelude so its really idiotic proof.

What other suggestions for the boost controller?.

Since you are doing surgery, go ahead and restued the block with ARP head studs and get a real headgasket, or at the very least, a new OEM one properly treated.

Is this necessary or optional?I was planning to upgrade the turbo only, didnt plan to remove the head just yet. My motor is stock w/ 160,000km.

Thats about 100K miles for you...I think you might need a head gasket and some bottom end work there...
