Did an ECU diagnostics test on my 1990 300 ZX NA and got codes 21 and 35. Code 21 refers to the "Ignition signal Circuit" and code 35 refers to the "EGR Temp. sensor. Just wondering if anyone else had these codes and what they looked at first for the fix. Could not find the location or even a reference to an "EGR Temp. Sensor" in the online manual. Any ideas?

Thought I might add that the car runs fine, except sometimes I get a strong gas odor. Tightened up all my fuel hoses and even the little bastard hose under everything. Smell is not as strong but still an occasional odor. I have replaced the ecu with a new one and from the Auto Check I ran, my car began it's life in California.

For code 21 I would start with checking the ptu, and for 35 the egr temp sensor harness/connector. Corrosion is usually a problem with z's and connectors, make sure you have the newer style ptu as there was a recall.

Thanks, I will check the PTU, but I cannot find the EGR temp sensor, any idea? Figured it should be close to the EGR, but don't see it.

the ignition circuit generally means the ptu, the egr code means the erg soleniod, nto the egr itself as it has no electronic's it's just a vac operated valve, the soleniod regulates the vacume going tot he actual egr

Ok, it looks like my ptu has been updated with the newer one, but I did discover that some of the wires were bare from when I threw my alternator belt. I guess the belt caught the wires somehow. I am going to rewrap the wires and clean all the connections, hopefully that takes care of code 21. As far code 35, I found a diagram that shows the EGR temp sensor located right of the driver side of the EGR valve. Plan to try to get to that this weekend.
