Take into consideration: miles , engine condition , exterior condition , interior condition , tire condition. i would take it to a mechanic , test drive it , etc. Depending on all that i would say anywhere from 500-3000. =]

listen for the timing chain if you hear it dont buy it no matter how cheap it is. (unless its like massively cheap ie. 500 bucks) also it depends where you live since your in NY i would check make sure there isnt a ton of rust on the underbody and lower suspension area. Also make sure to look under the foam spoiler if its a hatch (u dont have to take it off just peer under it make sure its not all rusted throug [common problem]) test drive it of course. i also would make sure all the power options work - windows mirrors roof seats sterio windshiield wipers headlights all the basic stuff. its a lot to remember most important thing is stay cool dont act all jumpy like you need it NOW and it will generally get you a lower price. i personally paid a lot for my car because i knew for a fact that it was driven by an older person who knew how to drive a stick and it was in flawless condition mehanically and aestetically. it was a great base for me to start on with nothing to fix and nothing to worry about.
