I was wondering what the best gear ratios was for a 240 turbo. I was thinking about a 4.3 rb20 vlsd or else a 3.9 r200 vlsd. whats better for drifting and track racing?

I can report that I drifted with both an 180sx vlsd and now my stock pumpkin with a 2-way diff and I can say I didn't notice a difference in the gear ratio.

I did on the other hand notice a difference when I installed the 2way.

I moved from a VLSD because I found after using it in five events I was opening it up mid drift.

I found the problem when I returned to the pits and one tire was constantly worn more then the other.

Now with the 2way they are just both destroyed.

Here are some pictures of me in action with both a VLSD and a 2-way clutch type lsd.

VLSD. I polished my technique with it. It was a great upgrade from an open differential.

Tire smoke and grip with the 2 way. This is one event later. I can now dive into turns hotter and drift harder. The rear flicks hard and kills the turns. I guess it allowed me to learn to drive much more aggressive. After practicing with the 2 way I was able to take the same turns in the same fashion with an open diffed car.

I wanted to include both pictures to show the transition thru this turn. The car is moving fine but there is not a great deal of tire smoke. I think this was because the vlsd opened and tried to grip the turn.

Here I am again a month later, in a like turn. There is a huge difference. The car is a beast now. I feel like I gained 75 - 100 hp. (It spins the wheels like a turbo equipped car in the low rpms but still dies in HUGE turns) I have a friend with a car set up almost duplicate to mine. Different companies but like modifications. He competed at Lowes Motor Speedway and told me there was still a need for turbo for the third gear huge drifts.

This is with a car that has not had any gear ratio changes. I don't think you will get a response like I did with a ratio change. I would look to invest in a gear or clutch differential.

I am sorry that this is not the answer you were looking for but I saw no response so I thought this little post would help you out.
