Post

hey folks,

So i recently purchased an old 1996 Infiniti J30. My Ford Focus broke down and someone sold this to me for only 500$.

However, after driving for a period of time, I start to smell gas in the cabin. Most internet searches suggest either fuel injector or gas tank. However, when I popped the hood, I noticed what appears to be a small gas leak. Pictures are attached. I don't think its an injector but I can't be too sure.

If it doesn't take much work or money to get it fixed, I'm totally for it. Can anyone advise on what would be my next step? Thanks.

Welcome aboard!

Love the J30 - they're actually on my list of collectibles (well, the ones that aren't beat to hell).

Anyhow, what you have there is a time-consuming but totally fixable issue. Get yourself a box of good fuel injection clamps in the correct size, as well as a length of injection hose (the 300ZX guys can tell you what size it is), and a good hose cutter. you'll want to go ahead and replace all of them, as well as fuel filter.

Let us know if you need more guidance - like I said, it's a PITA, but if you don't mind spending a day tinkering, you're probably plenty qualified to handle it!

Thanks for your advice! All my other queries suggest that fuel injection regulator (the item that is circled) and the hose that needs to be replaced. can anyone tell me what i should do when changing these parts so I don't get gas everywhere? Do I need to pull the fuse for the fuel pump? Thanks again.

You nailed it. Pull pump fuse, crank it and let it die.
