Hi, I'm new here. I just bought an 03 g35 coupe. I traded my VW GTI 06 for it. I love the car except for one thing. The gas milage is horrible. I filled the car 2 days ago, reset my tripometer, I have now 59 miles on the tripometer and a little less than 3/4 of a tank. Is this normal? I realize the moter is larger than my VW was but c'mon.

Since it's an 03, check a few of the standard MPG related items.

Tire alignment, tire pressure, tread wear.

Air filter, fuel filter.

Start there before looking into the powertrain for answers.

Also, make sure to use premium gas.

Welcome to NICO!!

How's your heavy foot doing?

I have the exact same problem, still diagnosing mine...although I think my driving is the culprit.

where do you live...is it cold? They use different gas brews in the winter and the gas mileage on a g35 is roughly 150 a tank for me in the winter. I took it on the highway on a 65 degree day on 6th gear and banked over 300 miles to the galloon then...where do you live though?

Well, I bought the car used from an infinity dealer.... I guess I was just hoping they would have check those things for me.... I shouldn't put it past them. It does pull to the right a little when I let the wheel go. AND I have these monsterous 20"X10" on the rear and 20"X8.8" in the front that the dealer put on to sell with the car. That might have somthing to do with it also.

THIS... just might be the problem. The car is not quite as quick as my GTI was for sure, but I still find myself in the high RPM range more than I should. I want to tune the car, upgrade it to make more power but I'm afraid to break it because of the milage. It has 46k on it. AND it's an automatic. I'm still trying to get used to this whole "not shifting" thing.

Wher I live, is the exact opposite of cold..... im in tampa florida. hot, muggy... humid. I'm sure that has something to do with it as well. 150 a tank? wow, thats rough. Especially since gas is now about 3 bucks a gallon down here.

i've had my g35 automatic coupe since last may. and i can tell you that the car simply doesn't get very good gas mileage for its size. but that doesn't bother me too much...it still gets better mileage than my 4x4 supercrew ...

personally i wish nissan would give the rear axle a slightly taller ratio so that the car wouldn't run so many rpms on the highway. that's mostly where i'd like to see an increase in mpg...

Gasoline consumption is primarily a function of displacement at least at idle and steady cruise............acceleration is a function of HP created. Each HP requires a specific amount of gasoline to create.

A 3.5 with use TWICE as much per minute of idling as a 1.8liter.RWD has more frictional loss than a FWD [2-3%]

to add to that...gearing can have a pretty large effect on gas mileage too. proper gearing that keeps the vehicle in its torque-band while cruising on the highway can have a positive effect on mpg. that's how they can get decent mpg out of big over-the-road buses, relatively speaking.

I've been reading posts on this subject for awhile. I have a 2006 G35 sedan 6sp manual with just over 25k miles. I filled up this morning and got 23.32 MPG on my last tank of gas. I drive over 100mi per day mostly on the Garden State Parkway. I use regular 87 octane gas. I have read a number of posts that confirm regular gas gives slightly better mileage. A question on last Saturday's Car Talk was answered by confirming my assessment that using premium is a waste of money unless you want to get the last bit of horsepower out of your engine. If I'm getting 280 hp using regular and it increases my MPG I could care less if I'm not getting 298 hp out of my engine. The car still out performs the Acura TL that I compared prior to purchase. Tires, correct tire pressure, and regular replacement of the Air Filter also contribute to getting better MPG.I was using 10w-30 oil because of early oil consumption, but just switched to 5w-30 as I am not getting 2000mi per quart of oil. I am interested to see if this switch will increase my MPG? I'll let you know.

Here's another .02 for you... I have had my '04 coupe for nearly a year now. I drive about 7 miles to work exclusively in city traffic, using premium fuel. (The manufacturer recommends it. To me, that is reason enough to do so). My mileage is consistently 13.5 to 14.5 mpg. When on a trip earlier this year, I got right at 23 mpg.

I know that I have a heavy foot, which is exponentially exaggerated by the extreme enjoyment I get from driving the car at the higher end of the rpm range. My son has my old BMW 525i, with 130k miles that gets 22 to 24 mpg consistently. It is a heavier car, with over a hundred less hp... but I know that he is much easier on the gas than I am. If I drove like my grandma for the next tankful, I bet I could get close to 16 or 17 mpg, but wouldn't be having any fun... so I might as well drive a Hyundai! (NOT!!)

I don't generally look at the miles per tank that I get, only because each car that I have owned has had a different size tank. The G Coupe just doesn't hold that much gas. At my around-town mileage, I am only going to get about 250 miles out of a tank. Fortunately, I live near the ocean in a moderate climate. Plenty of dense air, and no drastic temperature changes throughout the year.

If I were looking for gas mileage... I would have bought a Prius. I was looking for sport combined with style and comfort. I got everything I asked for. The lower mileage is simply the price I pay for that.

LOL...the tank hold 76litres...that's not alot BigWill??

If you are getting 250miles out of a tank in all city driving that equates to about 402 kilometers....that's 100 more then I am getting in city driving.

I kik it everywhere too...but, if you we're to fill up and were driving mainly or all in the city...i'd be interested to know your exact mileage...if your game?

Ok... I was figuring it based on 18 gallons... I couldn't remember what the tank actually holds. Your figure of 76 litres is the equivalent of 20 US gallons. It seemed to me as though the G doesn't hold as much fuel as my BMW did, but I guess after checking, the BMW held 21 gallons. Not much different. I get about 14 mpg around town in my G. That actually equates to 280 miles per tank if you use every bit of 20 gallons, (or 76 litres). I have never driven my tank to empty, so I can't say what the actual miles per tank are. I rarely let my tank get below half.

Lots of mathematical conversions are required if you start to use that funny measuring system that everyone but us arrogant Americans use! LOL
