assuming like your name that you drive an s13.
1 - Turn on ignition switch (do not start engine).2 - Turn diagnostic mode selector on ECU fully clockwise.3 - Wait a few seconds.4 - Turn diagnostic mode selector fully counterclockwise.5 - You are now in MODE-II.6 - Start engine and let fully warm up (temperature up to normal).7 - Run engine at 2000 RPM or higher for about two minutes under no load8 - Check that the inspection lamp (red LED) on the ECU goes on and off more than 5 times during 10 seconds at 2000 RPM.
If not new sensor needed
if its the MAF it is usually a grounding problem. Wiggle the MAF connector when the car's running, and you'll either duplicate or eliminate the problem. If not
Car off, battery disconnected (safety overkill, but why not?), disconnect the MAF connector. If you like, lightly scrape the surfaces of the contacts, plug it all back up, and it'll probably run fine for a while. If the problem returns quickly, the replacement MAF connector has an external pigtail ground. Or so I'm told. My friend cleaned his maybe 4 months ago, and has been rock steady ever since.
I hope i gave you the correct information, If not let me know and I will be glad to help you out. I dont like s13s tho:puke heh, but its all good. s14 is where its at:ylsuper
