G92 8800GTS review

Some of you may have seen my PCI express 2.0 thread.

Anyways, i ended up getting one of the new XFX Alpha Dog 8800gts video cards. It is PCIe 2.0 which IS fully backwards compatible with pcie 1.0 everything works great.

I had upgraded from an XFX 7900gs, which is now for sale, and the difference is considerable.

Here's a side by side comparison with my old card.The 8800gts actually managed to stay fairly small. And as you can see here fits nicely in my case.

So i went from a 525/1550 7900gs(which i had overclocked to 675/1720) to a 678/1950 8800gts. Overall performance difference is incredible. I can now run BF2142 with EVERY setting maxed and full 8x AA with no hit in FPS.I can run oblivion with 4x AA(haven't tried going higher) all environmental stuff turned on (water reflection/ripples/etc) and it runs absolutely amazing.

Overall i'm quite impressed. I knew it would be better, but i'm very impressed with HOW much better it actually was.

Just thought i'd share. Oh, and it came with COD4, so i gotta install that and start playing.

btw, this card has a g92 core. So much better performance then the g80. plays COD like a dream.

Sweet. I'm running the XFX 8800GS XXX Alpha Dog version.

Picked it up for $109 after rebate.

I like the transferable warranty.

But, I was reading on the forums. Apparently XFX uses a cheaper version of memory then EVGA does. So this limits the maximum overclocking capability.

Either way, I'll end up picking up another one of these GS cards and run it in a 2-way SLI setup
