I test drove a G37s. I like the concept of paddle shifters but there seemed to be some lag between the time you hit the paddle until it switched. It's not the delay you get from kickdowns but still it seemed slow. A couple months earlier I test drove a BMW 335i and I remember the paddle shifter more responsive (but there were 2 months in between...). Is that the experience from others as well?

Btw, the G37s is a very nice and powerful car. Steering feels very precise with good feedback. It's only the paddle shifters that felt somewhat slow.

Welcome to NICO! I have a 2009 G37S Sedan with paddle shifters. I haven't really noticed a big delay...but I typically put it in DS mode and let it shift automatically. In fact, were you in DS mode or just used the paddles? That will make a big difference because the computer puts it in a more aggressive shift pattern.

Also, remember that the transmission is a slushbox...not a dual-clutch. BMW may have a more aggressive computer (or on par with Infiniti's DS mode) , but it will never be like the dual-clutch sports cars. (Think Ferrari, Nissan GT-R, Lambo) The delay has to do with the computer telling when the trans can shift.

when you not in DS mode the paddles do have a slower response, but thats how it is when you are in regular D anyway. Put car in DS mode then use the paddle shifters, you will now be in full manual mode.

Paddle shifters nor the shifter work on a micro-second response time when running semi-aggressive. I do notice they are quicker to respond when you are "on it".
