The G recently became the first model with 100+ owners signed up for each of four model years. Great job, guys!

Of course, with sample sizes more is always better. So anyone who hasn't signed up--your participation would be helpful.

We did recently post the latest results. Most model years for the first-gen G35 are average or a bit better than average. The 2005 is a bit worse than average, which is probably an effect of the small sample size rather than an indication that that year is different than the others.

The 2007 continues to be on the low edge of average, because of the common problems with the seat heater wiring and a piece of sunroof trim. The repair rate for the 2008 is a bit better than average.

623 G owners signed up so far. An awesome start...but more is always better.

We're going to start performing more complex analyses soon for models with large sample sizes. Some years of the G could qualify.

This month's survey is the last before the February results. As always, additional participants would make it possible for us to provide better info to everyone.

TrueDelta has released updated Car Reliability Survey results for the Infiniti G35 AND G37. In terms of successful repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2008: 50; about average, large sample size

2007 sedan: 72, about average

2007 coupe: 16, better than average, very small sample size

2006: 27, better than average

2005: 80, about average; other results suggest actual repair rate is lower

2004: 33, better than average

2003: 47, better than average

Overall, the Gen 1 cars seem to require fewer repairs than the current generation, despite their greater age. It's possible that the repair rate for the current cars will improve one a few initial problems drop out of the analysis, which always covers the past year.

A big thanks to everyone who has been helping. We'll have further updates in May, August, and November, so additional participants would certainly be helpful.

TrueDelta now has a separate results page for each model that includes the scores of competitors for easy comparisons. The one for the Infiniti G35 / G37:

I just signed up my 2004 G35.

I bought in new in Sep 2004 and it has been flawless. I have 87,000 on it and plan on taking it at least that many more.

Thanks, I appreciate it.

The G35/G37 recently became the first model with 100+ owners signed up for each of five model years. Thanks, guys.

That said, with sample sizes more is always better, and we badly need more 2007 coupes and more 2009s.

I'm already signed up for my G37x, after my participation for over the last 2 years with my M35x. I notified them that I had sold my M and bought the G.

Thanks for putting a word in. Quite a few M owners have switched to the new G.

We have updated results for the G to include owner experiences through March 2009. In terms of successful repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2008: 48, about average

2007 sedan: 65, about average

2007 coupe: no repairs reported, but very small sample size--especially need more of these

2006: 16, better than average

2005: 79, about average--bump as the warranty ends?

2004: 41, better than average

2003: 40, better than average

A big thanks to AZhitman, this forum, and everyone who has been helping. We'll have further updates in August and November. With more participants, we could provide more precise information and cover all model years.

I bought a 2004 G35 6MT sedan with 71,000 miles on it about 6 weeks ago and noticed that the A/C didn't cool unless the car was moving. I also noticed when test driving it that there was an obvious wheel bearing whine coming from the right rear. With the A/C, I thought it was probably low pressure in the system because of a leak. Then I noticed the compressor made a noise I've never heard before in any other vehicle and thought then that it might be a bad compressor. Well, the compressor still makes a little too much noise but the culprit was the cooling fans but I only noticed the temp gauge moving up on one particularly hot day. Anyway, one fan wasn't working at all and the other was on its last leg. After replacing the fans and wheel bearing, nothing else appears to be wrong.........at least as far as major mechanical anyway.

I'm having a problem with the stereo system. When I hit a bump too hard or turn hard to the right, the entire left side of the system shuts down. I can "smack" (for lack of a better term) the console beside my knee and it kicks back in until the next bump/hard turn. I may rip it open one day and see if something's obviously loose but I'm not in a hurry for that.

Anyhoo.............this is arguably the best car I've owned since I started driving 25 years ago. It starts, go's, stops and does everything in between pretty impressively. Can't wait to start playing with it as soon as I get the Harley re-built.

Update............I forgot to mention the clutch pedal. What's the best way to get rid of the annoying rusty hinge squeeking out of it? WD40 didn't do a thing. Thinking about trying graphite but I can't pinpoint the exact source.

Thanks, Keith

2005: 83, about average--bump as the warranty ends?

2004: 36, better than average

2003: 48, better than average

We have updated results for the G to include owner experiences through September 30, 2009. In terms of successful repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2009: 10

2008: 36

2007 coupe: no repairs reported, very small sample size

2006: 36

2005: 65--bump as the warranty ends?

2004: 30

2003: 59

All are better than average except the 2005, which is about average.

We've also introduced two new statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds," to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop.

The percentage with no repairs is about 58 for the 2003, 85 for the 2004, 60 for the 2007, and 67 for the 2008, while the percentage of lemons is about 3 for the 2007 and less than one for the 2003, 2004, and 2008. These stats require more data, so we don't yet have them for other model years.

Just enhanced the related repair history survey so that it can (optionally) be used as a personal car maintenance record.

Starting this month we have a new question to measure, as objectively as possible, the severity of a problem. Many people have been asking for reliability stats that weight problems by how severe they are, and once we have enough responses with the revised survey we'll start providing this.

Also, updated reliability stats this month.

As always, the more owners participate, the better the information we can provide to everyone.
