Hi,
I was looking for a form to input this info - please direct me to it if there is one.
2003 G35 Sedan, 5AT, Leather, Cold Weather.
Purchased used in 2008 w/ 65k miles
now 140k miles.
Minneapolis, MN
I've included maintenance items (brakes, tires).
Reliability issues -
Stock Audio Unit
Sway Bar links
A/C compressor
5AT ATF fluid pan
Valve cover gasket and spark plug seals
Drivers seat (electric)
Brakes - replaced the new semi metallic Thermoquad pads w/ Hawk HPS Ceramics on the Front - no more brake dust headache. Hawk pads lasted 10 years and rotor wear is minimal. RR caliper failed in 2011, LR in 2016, RR in 2020 (Napa Lifetime units so free parts the second time).
Front calipers replaced in 2021 (Napa Eclipse).
Ceramic pads from Hawk, Akebono or NAPA if I'm in a hurry, are gentle on the rotors.
slotted/drilled and cheap rotors have failed early and often. Now using basic, coated iron units from Raybestos - so far, so good.
Stock Clarion Head unit (aka junk) failed in 2009 (CD changer actuator screw shorts out the power board, takes out the entire center panel - HVAC on auto pilot - works well fwiw). Repaired via NICO club connection - I don't play CDs anymore.
A/C compressor failed 2014 - went out w/ a bang and a puff of white vapor - summer/hot
A/C bearing failed, took the serpentine belt w/ it, winter/cold. Repair estimate was $1600 w/ a new compressor.
2013 Driver seat failed - front bracket/actuator - (junk!).
2014 Rear sway bar links - rusted, fine threaded bolts are difficult - recommend applying heat (torch) and using an impact wrench. Replacement units come w/ new studs, nuts so cut away!
2016 Struts (F) and shocks (R) are showing wear. Replaced w/ KYBs - the KYB rear shocks failed within a year and no warranty since my supplier was not authorized. The KYB struts squeal and squeak unless mounts are lubed w/ silicone grease. I do not recommend KYB for this car. I'm looking for a set of Tokico D-Specs.
Exhaust failures. 2014 - bolted joint over the rear axle and mid pipe. Replaced w/ Megan Cat back (Not recommended). Mid range torque is down but top end is better. Megan is too loud.
2019 - Y pipe at juncture/collector - replaced Megan unit w/ original muffler.
2020 - RHS Y pipe at Cat
2021 - LHS, downstream O2 Sensor mount, new Y pipe
5AT fluid pan rusted through in 2020. Replaced w/ OEM unit from Austin TX Infiniti ($50). Several of the screws failed - M6x15 - new required - recommend SS - anti seize is required (even w/ SS)
Do not over tighten - 70 inch-pounds is not much.
5AT general - draining/replacing 3.8 quarts of ATF annually. Initially using Nissan Type J (2010, 12, 14 & 2016) Now using Valvoline Full synthetic ATF annually.
Oil pan is rusting (what the front door aka how does that happen).
I was running 10W30 full synthetic - have switched to 5W30 - engine has great difficulty starting, running, pumping the 10W30 at temps below zero degrees F.
Valve covers and plug seals have been leaking since 2015 (new NGK Iridium spark plugs).
Tires - Goodyear Assurance 225-55-17, BFGoodrich GT2, A/S 235-50-17, now Michelin Cross Climate 2, 235/50/17 (I highly recommended this A/S tire).
Hopes this helps. YMMV!
Cheers,
jle
