My car is a 2003 Infiniti G35 sedan. I have 107,000 miles on it and my transmission just broke. The dealership said I needed a new one, fine. I got it replaced. They put new brakes and rotors on my car. Now my brakes are not working. When my car has been sitting cold for a while and I try to use the brakes for the first time, I press on the brake pedal and it stays down and the breaks do not work! After furiously pumping the pedal the brakes return to normal function, almost like the car needs to warm up. The dealership cannot replicate the problem or find anything wrong. This car is getting ridiculous, a transmission shouldn't break that early and now what is wrong with the breaks? Any suggestions?

sounds to me like your master cylinder is bad,Im a honda tech and notice this sometimes.Have you ever change your brake fluid, sometimes moisture gets into old brake fluid and may freeze.Seems that may be to late, contaminated fluid most likely damaged seals in master cylinder, especially since yor brakes were just replaced and the old fluid got pushed back up into the master cylinder. If brakes were just done definately would make them replace master cylinder, thats what we would do at my dealer.Could be other problems but thats what I would replace first.Ive seen this before and I know Its got to be annoying not to mention dangerous.Good lock and sorry to hear about your transmission.Sounds like a honda transmission, they drop like flys,I install at least 2 a week.

It made it thru the 100,000 mile design life. I assume you didn't replace the ATF at 30k and 60k to get extended life.

I am interested in what the dealership charged for a remanned 5AT? $4,000+?

The dealership put in a used transmission from a wrecked/used car with 37,000 miles on it, and it cost $3000. I only have a 6 month warranty on it.

lawson3,

is honda auto transmission that unreliable? i thought honda transmission was pretty reliable.

q45tech,i thought auto transmission lasts more than 100kmiles & some car manufactures recommend changing or flushing atf at 100kmiles like a honda accord?should i do the atf change every 30kmiles? i really don't want to do that because it is difficult to do it by myself.

thanks

infiniti635issues,i think it has something to do with the brake oil imho, water could be the one if it only happens when freezing.

The Honda auto trannys JUST became unreliable, esp in the 01 -06 TL'S and MDX's. weve dropped 300k plus on our 92 accord with no issues. My wife's MDX had a new transmission installed at 90k and it went again at 125k. Very disapointing hence her 5spd X5. Flushes are dangerous typically after 75k (I've heard)

yea, most transmission problems on Hondas began around the year 2000,although Honda did extend some trannys to 100k warranty, customers rarely pay to have transmission changed, most of the time the company pays the bill.We recommend changing trans fluid every 30k miles, the older hondas never had many transmission problems. This is why I bought a G35.Had a 2000 accord which I installed 2 transmissions, and had a 2004 accord that started slipping.
