Generally speaking cars are tuned from the factory to run a certain fuel 'area'. Your o2 sensor will read what the engine is putting out, and make minor adjustments.

I wouldn't go higher then 94 without having a wideband o2 logger, and tuneable ECU. (I say this because I have no first hand experience with G's, and I don't know how the injectors, seals, fuel lines, fuel pump would react to something like E85, perhaps someone else could chime in that has modified and run different fuels for this specific car)

I ran 94 often on my Maxima with the same VQ35 motor. Japan offers even higher octane ratings than we do at the pump as you can purchase up to 100 RON octane which is equivalent to 95 octane here (AKI measurement used in US). You should not have any issues with 94 octane as the ECU should adjust accordingly. I would stay away from E85 as I doubt the '04 G35 was designed with that fuel in mind (hose materials, gaskets, etc).
