Morning Gentlemen!

Well, this fall I do believe it is time for a new car. I come from the German Car World, all I have owned since I was in HS was a Mercedes and now I have the BMW.

BMW DRASTICALLY changed their entire line up on all vehicles in 2005. Their new body style doesn't do it for me anymore

Mercedes has openly admitted they have made a more efficient automatic transmission, and won't be offering a 6MT in any of their sport sedans anymore(aside from the 240 I believe)

Out of ALL the JDM companies, I have ALWAYS had a special place in my heart for Nissan. Buddy of mine had this little POS '88 sentra coupe 5spd...thing was like a go-kart...total blast to drive.

Yet the G35c has continued to catch my eye. A guy here at work has a G35 Sedan, and while I am not a big fan of the 4 door, it is one sharp looking vehicle.

So this leads me to my question, how does the G35 compare to its other comparably priced counter parts (3 series, A4, etc) Obviously, what ever I get needs to be a 6MT, be decently quick, and of course have some eye appeal

How is the car's reliability, cost of ownership, cost of parts, and resale value compare when stacked up against its Euro Conter parts? Any well known or recalled items to watch out for while shopping?

The one G35c I really liked, was a blue 6MT, and it had the in-dash Nav pop up..what year was this released and how much will that option suite run in the pocket book?

One thing I can't seem to confirm or not, is if Infiniti offers a CPO program or not. Being a young professional(only 20 y.o) a CPO car is far more appealing to me. I can readily afford a new one, yet in the fall when the new models arrive, I can get a car thats only a year or two old, in great condition, has a warranty, and can get alot of options for not the same price as a new one.

Thanks in advance guys,

-Resident newb

First, welcome to NICO! All the guys here are very helpful.

Let me answer your question about color first. I assume you're talking about the dark blue coupe...they don't make that color anymore, you'll have to get an 03-04. That was my favorite color too...but it didn't sell.

The reliability is terrific...if you take care of your engine(like any other car). The VQ35 is an award winning engine; it's been on the 10 best list for years.

The NAV option is 3k, and available in every model/year...only worth it if you travel a lot IMO.

Resale is on par with BMW/Mercs...very good/excellent.

The G35 ranks up there with the cars you mentioned (better looking IMO) More HP and a better handling car. I would get the newest one you can afford. The early model years have issues with the brake pads wearing fast and dust. I like the stereo/console looks of the 05+ too. The 06 has blue-tooth and a better seatbelt design....but an ugly spoiler.

I'm not sure if Infiniti does certified pre-owned vehicles...but if you can find one with low miles, you're set. I found my 05 with 5k miles for 10k less than a new 06.

I agree with your BMW statement...the only one I like is the 500HP M6, but its WAY out of my price league!!!

I see more youg'ins driving bimmers than old people....the elder more established people seem to drive the Mercedes and Jags these days...BMW has always been a yuppy car IMO

Very Informative Reply, I appreciate the insight!

Personally, I kinda like he spoiler...I think it kind of fills out the rear end.

How is the Bose system in the later models? I am running Infinity Kappas in my BMW right now...they've made me a loyal customer!

Any nuance's to watch out for? How does the G35 compare to the 350Z(aside from there basically the same car)

The bose lacks any serious bass, but I've had an aftermarket subwoofer system installed, driven by a beast of an amp. It's very loud...and the bose speakers/amp keep up with it just fine.

I like the look of the G35 compared to the 350...plus the back seat is there if I need it. The Infiniti will not get as many looks from the fuzz either...

I love the spoiler on the 03-05...they changed it in 06 to be much shorter-it no longer hangs off the sides.

Issues:

Tire feathering in the early years...because of the staggered setup, tires cannot be rotated completely. (they're also pricy...$1200 for a decent set of 4)...some people have been complaining of excessive oil consumption, but that's the exception, not the norm.

Really minor stuff:

The oil dipstick is in a bad position...the hood doesn't have shocks...some squeaks and rattles inside the cabin (covered under warranty)...clutch is touchy...not enough HP.

Most of the gripes are with any car...all-in-all the G35 is an exceptional vehicle, that can hang with the racers...but also gets the looks.

G35coupe is the way to go,it's competitive in every field, except one. The visual. I don't think any of those cars will catch as many eyes as the g35. The rear tailights look sweet, and are very distinctive. You can't not drive down the road and see one,and not know what it is. The car just looks great. Has good power, and is very comfortable. Has all the same options any of the other cars would.

Jetter,

I am a MB, and BMW convert, myself, I used to drive a CLK and CL before ditching both of them in favor of an Infiniti. In regards to your specific question, the G35 coupe is a stunner. I got a 06' G35 white w/ sports package, full loaded and it turns heads. On the performance, the HP is definately up to par if not better then it's BMW 3-series counterpart. I found the handling, quickness, and cornering abilities of the G to be superior then my e36 BMW. And my G was more comfortable and user friendly then my CLK. I won't compare the CL, b/c that's a different league altogether.Infiniti does offer a CPO program, see your dealer as there many CPO advertised, at least here in Northern VA/DC area.

For reliability, i have 7000 miles on my car. No issues so far. When I bought it new, I was advised the break in period was 1500 miles, so I took it easy, but once the engine opens up, it's an amazing beast. Engine, breaks, suspension is rock solid. Believe me, it was a breath of fresh air since my CL500 with 18,000 miles was in the shop 6x in a one month.

Maintenance wise, Infiniti has recommended service intervals, and I take my car to the dealer once I hit my interval. The cost. Two options. Standard or premium. Premium, they check more things. See infiniti website. I go w/ the Premium maintenace package, around 80.00 bucks. Not bad. I am sure you are aware of the high cost of MB, so 80.00 every six months is not bad at all Infiniti uses their OEM oil/filter (sync/blend oil) so I do whatever is factory recommended. I get excellent service and no run-around like MB dealerships.

Re-sale value. If you have a fully loaded G35 and in mint condition, you will get very good resale even from the dealer. How do i know? B/C my dealer always suggest to me, why not tradeup for the new 2008 G coming up, and the quoted trade in price was pretty darn good. Plus with Consumer Reports rating three Infiniti models as best in class, these cars will be in demand.

Navi system. The pop up is definately very cool and the integration into the console is very appealing. I recommend getting the factory package vs. aftermarket.

Good luck w/ your purchase!

Amer
