A great resource for Nissan Sentra, Infiniti G20, 200sx, Pulsar, NX1600, NX2000, Tsuru, Primera and Sunny owners.

Hey, My car finally gave up on me today, first time since I got it 2 years ago. 1993 G20. I turned the ignition, NOTHING!All electricals work, headlights, remote locking, horn, hazard blinkers, radio etc. So the battery is fine. When I turn the key, I can hear the "CLICK" sounds from the fuse panel located near the left knee of the driver. My guess is the starter is blown. Am I right..? Any other possible reasons? How much should I be paying for a used/new starter(estimates for both would help)...? Is it possible to change it at home without going to a mechanic (and save $100-$150 on labor) !!!?HELP ASAP!!

It's not a difficult fix, you could do it yourself pretty easily. Get an FSM for the torque specs (the link in my sig should lead you to one).

If you want to be sure, just check to make sure you're getting spark and that the injectors are firing.

Strangely, my car started today...right before the tow truck arrived!! It was a bit sluggish like the battery was really low. Based on what I read on another thread, the starter is about to give up entirely pretty soon.(The good part is I didn't get charged for the tow truck showing up!!)

I searched for starters on line, the following link has them on sale. Which of the brands on this link is recommended?http://www2.partstrain.com/v5/...arter

Will look up some used parts shop too and try to fix it myself. Will end up saving a LOT, as Midas said the starter would cost me $350 and an additional $100 for labor.Might need some help with documents at your link though! Thanks

If you're not going OEM, I'd go Bosch. They're generally the safe bet across the board in terms of OE-replacement parts (though for spark plugs and O2 sensors on Nissans, this isn't necessarily true).

The SR20 starter in my Daughters SER died and i replaced it with one with a lifetime warranty from Auotzone.I found out there are are two, Hitachi and mitsu, although i don't remember which is which the long nose type is reported to be better. ie less troublesome.Anyway we got given the short nose, only one in stock, and it only lasted 6 months.Next time we got the long nose, only one in stock again, and its been about 2 or 3 yrs and still going strong. My recommendation is to buy locally if you can with a lifetime warranty as the rebuilt starters and alternators have spotty quality.I dont know if i believe the long nose type is better or not, find it hard to believe.good luck.
