Check codes and work from there until and if you get no results, then ask about alternatives.
I had a similar issue with my PTU harness connectors where they would get hot from the added resistance of the huge corrosion issue always present there, and the only solution (temporary, always needs attention) is new connectors and a relocate, and more attention each driving season. IACV and connectors can also present issues, as well as fuel injector harness and connectors, and also a strange fuel pump controller issue I just red about on the main page and I have also had issues with (fuel pump noise) despite replacing the pump. LOTS of stuff to check and test.
The online service manual has a lot of tests and such for these problems, the only real DIY solution I have found other than just going over EVERYTHING and cleaning, repairing, replacing.
