HiAll,

I'm looking to do an E85 conversion and would like some imput on how to approach this design from a technical perspective.

My 1990 TT was recently rebuilt (Stage II Longblock) with GT2560R's and NISMO (purple) 555's for fuel injectors.

I'm uncertain of the essential components for this architecture however, I need to ensure the E85 conversion works efficiently. Here is my list of what I think I need:- 1000cc injectors (Sard, RC?)- fuel pump- fuel pressure regulator- AEM F/IC 6- dual UEGO management

Have I left anything out?Has this been done before? If so, can you provide a link?

Based on your input, I'll develop a gameplan and begin the project with full documentation including images.

Real excited and looking forward to reviewing your comments.

Thx.

I'm no expert on E85 but my understanding if it brings up these potential problems

my truck is flex fuel and I've run regular unleaded and e85 through it

your fuel milage drops with E85 as it contains fewer btu's and therefore requires more fuel to make the same amount of power, if memory serves it's approximately 30% more fuel, in my truck at the cost of e85 vs 87 octane 87 is much cheaper and e85 does rise in price with gas

here are some ceoncerns I have with the conversion:fuel lines, standard rubber hoses are nto compatible with E85, and there are a lot of little pieces of rubber hose on your fuel lines, by the tank, under the plenum, by the fuel filter etc

O rings, your stockO rings are nto compatible and would have to be changed to ones that are compatible

ignition timing, e85 has a much higher octane and therefore requires less ignition timing to run propperly

fuel mapping, as I states you need fuel maps matched to the E85

tuning I'm not sure on, as to if E85 is compatible wiht standard O2's or standard O2's on what the target ratio and voltage would be in either case

also E85 si far more conductive then gas so pump instalation might be an issue

Also I think spark plugs are a must since these fuels will burn at slightly different temperatures, ignition spark must also be compensated.

BTW good luck on the conversion, I have never seen it done on a Z but smellin my own fumes gets me thinkin about that mod too. Maybe one day we will have a fleet of green Z's powered by used frying oil or something along those lines. But seriously, think green

Ethanol is 50% less in south America i.e. gas $3.00 gallon blended with alcohol $1.50 and it's made from sugar not corn,, they've reduced their dependency of foreign oil to almost 0.. And what would that do for our Country ?
